In the History of man. Thenre has been NO Superpower like the United States. We alone Fight for the freedom of man. Not one of the great superpoewers of history has ever gone to war and then used its own power to restore the defeated and then willingly relinqish its control. Not the Phoenicians, not the Greeks, not the Romans, not the Spanish, not the French, The English, or the Soviet Union or the Germans and Japaneese.

Only the United States and its Ethic of Service to the World. We spend far more on the relief of others than we do for ourselves. We sacrifice money and resources, for the well being of others. We lay down our lives for the lives of others. When there is disaster, who does the World turn to first? The World calls us to help them out, then they make a fuss about how we do it. We are the World's police by default. We have always gone grudgingly to War. In WW1, and WW2, Europe begged us to join before they tore themselves apart. In Korea the UN Begged us to protect and serve. In Viet-Nam it took us 5 years to even realize we were at War, and again we were begged in by the French to do it. We are the economic engine that drives the world. When we catch a cold, The rest of the world gets the Plague. So, yeah, If we were not the Worlds SuperPower my life might not be better or worse. but the World definitely would be.

Never Forget 9/11/01. We didn't start the Fire but we will Damn sure bring the water hose to help put it out.

The country was formed not through common ancestry or culture, but ideals(& this is what made it great). It's based generally, on unity for the common good. U.S. foreign policy is the problem, as are the lawmakers, decision makers and Bill passers. They do not adhere to the deals they make & they make deals are in their best interests today & change their mind tomorrow because it suits them...There is no commonality from one goverment to the next. No common sense approach or working together b/ween incoming & exiting political parties. No one has any commonality with the States anymore, as it acts too often for its own interests.
You cannot claim the high moral ground when you sign deals with scumbags! If you sleep with dogs, you get fleas!(reference to previous campaigns/deals for U.S. benefit & no thought to how anyone else is affected)........You are only as good as your word & they don't keep it...and this is the reason they are not respected!!! It is their foreign policy that causes all the problems.

Famously - U.S. citizens & soldiers on t.v. are commonly heard to say we saved your asses in WWII ! Well the French saved you from the British and helped the U.S.A. to declare independence, yet after just one disagreeing govt of France & they're calling French Fries...Freedom Fries!! etc...at the end of the day the U.S. will not be matched for some time militarily or economically & so they will remain at the top of the tree of nations, you just have to hope they have no real interest in your national assets.

***Absolute power corrupts absolutely & that's the problem*** Although in the whole scheme of things I agree with the statement (-:, & it would be naive to think otherwise...

I hope u find my overall response as a balanced view.

No. If not for the U.S. you would be speaking either German or Japanese, depending on where you live. Also, consider the non-existence of the U.N. (hard, I know), as the U.S. provides by far more of the funding than any other country. Also consider the billions of dollars in international aid distributed every year. Despite some of her mistakes and misteps, the world would be worse off without the U.S.

There's nothing wrong with U. S. being a super power in the world.

Pressing its influence too unilaterally IS a problem. Ultimately it is likely to be a bigger problem for the U. S. itself more than the rest of the world, within a short generation or two.

The World would be a better place if America wasn't the only super power; it was better when the Russians were there to keep them in check now a maniac like Bush takes over (or whoever is running him) and there is no control for their meglomaniacy.

We will all be safer when China gets a bit stronger (stopped the nutters from attacking north korea) and Russia kicks in again.

That's an interesting question. We became a superpower by necessity. With all the valuable resources in this country, we needed to protect our borders. Without the land, we wouldn't have had the success in building our society. We'd still be living in mud huts. So, I guess my answer would be no.
