I have had this on my patio, and if my husband doesn't get to it with the power washer, I put some bleach in a spray bottle spray the green stuff and then hose it off. If it doesn't look like it's gone right away, the bleach seems stay there in the cracks of the brick and keeps working. The trouble with a power washer is that it blows all the fine sand or stones out from between the blocks.

A simple pressure washer or power washer would work. You may find it worth investing in one of those things. A little power washer (about $80 at a Home Depot or Lowes) would do the job just fine. I use mine about every 4-6 months to clean up the walkways and drive way. The power/pressure washers do it all with water only.
Much cheaper than hiring someone to do the work.
Much easier than putting chemicals down, scrubbing, and then still hosing off.
BTW - It's "mildew".

Simply put, get a jug of bleach and pour it into a spray bottle with a 1 to 1 mix with water. Spray spray spray all over the affected areas. This may need to be repeated if the area doesnt get any sunlight, and is fairly dank, and stays wet often. I had this problem before and the bleach mixture helped out, but I had to repeat it about once every couple of months.

Look in Yellow Pages for drive cleaners - the one I used was called Revive-a-Drive - they will also clean a patio, they did mine and it was just amazing. They use an industrial high pressure washer - you might be able to hire one and do it yourself. The other alternative is to buy some patio cleaning solution and a hard bristled brush and clean it yourself. I tried this first, and it's very hard work and the results are nowhere near as good as if you get the professionals in. I had the front of my house, complete with wall, and the rear with two patio areas cleaned for around £120. One patio shouldn't be too much.

Either use a powerwasher or scrub with a solution of Jeyes fluid. Power washers can sometimes leave a bit of a streaky effect if you havent set the jet right but at least they dont pollute the groundwater with chemicals.

They are (the other answers) talking about a pressure washer, you can buy one from most DIY stores relatively cheaply, don't hire someone to do it for you as it will cost you too much. If you buy a pressure washer (and they are easy to use) you will have it on hand to use again when ever you need to, and you can clean the car with it too

you could always use a mix of clorox and water, but that kills any plants that catch it!!!!
Go on line and get Consan or Triple Action X....both professional greenhouse items to do the same as clorox for cleaning but doesn't hurt plants or discolor stone.

Jet wash works really well. Use a recommended mildew remover first (available from garden centres/supermarkets) and then blast with the jet wash.
