NK is basically giving the finger to provoke the US. i think more to make a point at this stage. much like mugarbe in africa does to the UK every once in a while. the point being 'you arrogant b*stards, don't tell me what to do. look i'm doing it anyway, so what you are you gonna do about it now?'. also a very valid point that they have made is that dispite the calls for compromise the US have notibly ignored them, wanting to play the school bully instead which really shows them up as a target.
i think anyone who thinks china won't back NK up is wrong. they will. the chinese hate the west, esp. the US (take your white skin there and see how much love you recieve and tell me i'm wrong) and it is precisely for that reason the US will not engage NK directly.
where this situation goes in future? well, who really knows how far NK will go. personnally, i don't believe they have the resources to start a war on their own. if something happens it will be in collusion with china and/or iran and possibly russia too.
what ever happens though, you know that the days of the US being a super power are becoming numbered and they have no one to blame but themselves.

North Korea is posturing. Nuclear weapons are like toys for dictators. They believe it will give them the power to dictate terms. North Korea is used to getting their way because they have been appeased by previous administrations. The current administration has no intention of appeasing them, thus we have 6 party talks instead of direct one on one. The problem for North Korea in this instance is that world opinion is against them including traditional allies like China.

The people who believe that the United States could not effectively engage North Korea if it becomes necessary are naive and have no understanding of the history of this conflict. The Korean War much like Vietnam was a political war and victory was not the ultimate goal. In the conflict it was not North Korea which posed a real threat, but rather the Chinese who were supporting them. The Chinese equation has driven the direction of this conflict for 50 years now. That equation has changed.

North Korea does not pose a direct threat to the United States at this time, but they do pose a great threat to other nations in the region. Namely South Korea and Japan. Even the Chinese understand that destabilizing the region would have disastrous effects on all and with their emerging economy at risk have chosen not to stand blindly with North Korea this time.

The primary reason North Korea continues to threaten is because their leader has seen how world opinion can shift based on conflicts regarding the United States. He incorrectly believes he can provoke us into either appeasing him or attacking. If we attack he believes that his allies will stand with him as they have in the past against the evil Americans. He is making a serious miscalculation in this matter and runs the risk of being attacked by the very allies he cherishes. This situation will be resolved in time, but I suspect not to the satifaction of North Korea.

You seem to got your wuestion the wrong way round. Why is America threatening North Korea? The answer comes from the fact that North Korea is another little war that the US lost or just managed to save face in and they are Communist into the bargain.

i think of a war with North Korea could be detrimental. it would be devastating for one u . s . or anther, greater probable North Korea as you stated. i do no longer understand what the chief of North Korea thinks he's doing. Does he think of he's doing something good or patriotic? the two US and North Korea are no longer arranged for war. As you stated, North Korea can't even feed their human beings, and US has too lots dept. A war might injury the two facets, even the triumphing one.

North Korea literally live in their own little world. We know little about them as they are so closed and they restrict their population to know about the rest of the world so it does make you wonder whether they actually realise how powerful other countries are! I heard the other day that their head of state is actually dead and has been for a few years and that his son is running the country in his name! I don't know whether that is true though.

Krazy-Kim thinks because he has a nuclear weapon he's the $hit and can take on anyone now! Also North Koreans call America imperialists, enemies of the commies!

Also lots of countries dislike America nowadays. Venezuela, Cuba, NK, lots of Europe, Zimbabwe, Iran... Its like been
"alternative" to go against the US of A.

North Korea is showing the world that it is a force to reckon with. Thus, some nations like the US is scared of it and might think twice of unifying it with South Korea.

And America isn't threatening other countries with war? Let's not be haste and point fingers so quickly. How many countries have suffered the wrath of the United States, win or loss? Go and review your history first.

Because we no longer have the will to follow through with a war.If we can't win in a year we want to quit. The demise of this country as a super power is the goal of the Democrat party and you can read it on here more often than I care to believe is possible.
