unless you have amplified speakers, that won't work.
regular stereo speakers take a LOT more power to run that what the soundcard on a computer puts out.
You can buy a cable that is a male stereo headphone type jack at one end and 2 RCA male outputs on the other, that will allow you to plug the laptop into the input jacks of a home theatre or stereo system & control the volume through the stereo.
connecting directly to the speakers is a no go.

You can probably do it in a more complicated way but you can just run a single head-phone jacked cable to your amplifier from the headphone jack on the (I think) left side of your comp. You'll need to plug it into your amp rather than your speakers direct cos there's not enough output power from the computer alone.

Get in touch with an apple dealer to find out if there's a more complicated way of doing it.

You need a receiver/amp to drive your speakers. Most receivers have an RCA input. You can identify them by a red/white circular input on the back.

The cable you need is mini-jack to RCA.

If you have a more recent receiver you may have optical input in which case you should get a toslink cable (3.5mm mini plug to standard Toslink).

mini jack - Phono. Plug a mini jack into the speaker port of the G5, and plug the phono leads into the Aux on your amplifier.
