Ignore the last poster- you should NOT feed your pets garlic, as it has the potential to cause haemolytic anaemia (where the red blood cells burst).

If by 'store bought' you're referring to supermarket and pet shop products, they're not going to do anything. Go for veterinary products like Frontline or Advantage and make sure that you wash/vacuum your carpets and your pet's bedding- the majority of the flea population lives in the environment as larvae and eggs.

put garlic in with the pets food, this will drive the fleas away after a few times of doing this, but you have to continue doing this during flea season
