recently this was the issue regarding the lifting of the ban in Iceland and when you watched the news video, you can't help but noticed that they seem very happy about this..is it a political reason and since these poor gigantic sea creatures cannot communicate with us or (maybe for some reason we humans are the ones who cannot understand the word "killing"), we just ignore them and yet they are the victims here, my fellow human beings. the fact that we call ourselves "human", when what we are doing is not humane at all....Is it an ego trip, like "you whales maybe bigger than us but we all have the means to make you extinct"! Care to comment on this issue...

It's not an ego trip or a political statement. It's all about economics. The whaling industry and whale products are big business. Whale oil and whale meal are important commodities in many parts of the world. Cows, which are grown commercially for no other purpose than to be slaughtered for the meat and leather, are also harmless creatures. Imagine if there was discovered a cow in the wild that weighed 10,000 pounds. How long would it be before they were extinct? And if there were suddenly a ban on the killing of cows or pigs, what kind of effect would that have on the economy? I'm not saying it's right to kill whales, but it is an important industry in other parts of the world.
Now for the political statement part of my answer. It never ceases to amaze me that most of the same people who are so upset about the killing of whales and seals, seem to think it is perfectly acceptable to kill an unborn human, simply because it it is more convenient.

No, it is not an ego trip. Try to understand that things are not the same all around the world. In some parts of the world whaling is important. I'm sure Indians aren't pleased about others killing cows, but in some places of the world killing cows is a normal thing and quite important too.

Unlike what many people think, the types being whaled are not endangered and Iceland has only authorized whaling a small amount of whales under strict control.

I don't see how killing a whale is any worse than killing a cow or a dog or some other animal. It's sad that killing animals is necessary, but that's life.

Which do you think is worse, killing one non-endangered whale or 10 cows or 100 chicken? Would you sacrifice 10 lives to spare one? We all have to live on something. Why not kill one whale that can feed a lot of people instead of killing several cows for the same amount of meat?

By the way, do you even realize that while the U.S. condemn Iceland for whaling they practice whaling themselves?

Whaling is nothing like its glory days. The whales they are afte r are not endangered. If folk in Iceland like a whale burger, Who Am I to judge? One whale can feed a lot of people. I bet folk in Darfur would give Madonna their kid for a Whaler sandwich.....
