Any snake will try and find a dark warm place first. It could be anywhere! The ideal place would probably be in your wash basket, under your covers or on your pillow.

Corn snakes, being rat snakes, tend to go for heights. You would be amazed at the things that they can climb. Along with all of the suggestions from other answerers, you need to remember not to just focus on the ground. Look on top of and inside of anything warm. They can also get into very unlikely places. I've heard of them turning up, among other places, inside of computers! If anywhere is warm and sheltered, an escaped corn snake might be in there, even if you don't think it could possibly get in.

And, of course, like any escaped small pet, there's always under the refrigerator. Everything goes under the refrigerator, and if it can't get there on its own, due to being an inanimate object, the cat will stuff it there!

Snakes will mostly travel round the perimeter of the space, so don't spend too long searching the middle of the room - go around the walls.

If your snake has escaped, you can make a trap. Here's how:

1. Find an empty, clean soda bottle or similar bottle. Cut off the top.
2. Invert the top so it points inside the bottle and tape/clip it in place.
3. Place a frozen/thawed mouse inside the bottle.
4. Make the room dark. Wait.

It works because the snake goes in to eat the mouse, eats it, and can't fit back out the bottle due to the lump in the belly.

Some other tricks to try:

1. Place paper bags round the edge of the room. Make the room dark and wait in complete silence. You'll be able to hear the bags crinkling as the snake moves over them.
2. Place flour in doorways. If the snake moves through the flour, he'll leave a trail so you can see where he went.

Search EVERYWHERE. Snakes can fit in to tiny spaces.

Good luck!

Look under anything warm and snug. Under Refrigerators, heaters, water softeners, and furniture all provide good places for snakes to hide. If you can't find it, take a freshly killed mouse, drag it along the OUTSIDE perimiter of the rooms that the snake might be in. Then drag the mouse to a place without any cover for the snake to hide(along a wall with no furniture on it) Wait. The snake will get hungry, follow the smell... and there is your snake. If you can just pick it up, do so, if it tries to get away, catch it.

Happy Hunting!

I had a kingsnake that got out one night without me knowing about it.
I found out in the morning when something woke me up underneath the covers. Turns out it was the snake! It didn't bite me or try to hurt me or anything, it was just warm and snug underneath the covers, so that's where she was haning out.
Luckily I didn't have a girlfriend at the time, otherwise I probably would've gotten dumped.

It's in the space thats under the arm of the sofa. Gently lift the sofa and pull the material away from the bottom and use a flash light to locate it. Oh,, the left side as your facing the sofa.

Look under your furnature..... Sometimes snakes will actually get under the house and hide, however that's difficult to do unless you leave the doors open all the time.
