You cannot ever stop receiving spam email. You can only prevent new spam email senders from finding you. Spammers sell email lists to other spammers. Spammers use automatic spam sending software to do the job. They have no incentive to delete any email address from their list so your email address will stay on spammers lists forever.

If your email account has become a recipient of a large amount of spam, it is too late to stop it. Spam does not have a cut-off date.

You may need to create a new email account if you want to have a fresh start. Then stop sending your email address to companies that have no scrupples such as online gaming companies, dating services, resume services and discussions forums. They will usually sell your email adrress to anyone and everyone. Many of these sites have elaborate privacy statements that are worthless and fake.

Insist, repeatedly, (because many will not understand at first) that all your friends use blind carbon copy (BCC) for all their email chain letters. If dozens of people who are on the chain letter list see your email address, it is possible for at least one of them to be tempted to begin a career of spamming by compiling a list of email addresses from chain email lists. Can't you see that is why these chain letters always say "Please send this to ten of your friends for good luck"? It is all BS designed to get a longer list for spamming.

If you have a personal web site, never put your email address on that site in text format. Nowadays, spammers use spider scanning software that will search the background code of all web pages on the Internet hoping to find an "@" sign. Then the automatic software will extract the characters before and after the "@" sign which means it has an email address. Instead, put your email addrerss in a picture and put that on your web page. No spider software can find an "@" sign in a picture. It is not as convenient as a "mailto:" code but it is a lot safer.

Never open any email message that is not from someone you absolutely know. Don't be tempted or confused. Your friends will just have to learn to use one standard email address and to put their name in the account options as the sender. Blank sender names are a mine field of possible spammers.

Never open any attachment that you did not ask for or do not need. Unexpected attachments are often just forwarded by people without any concern for where they were first created. Would you eat a sandwitch that was given to you by a friend who said, "I found it on the bus seat." Not all sneak attack attachments are viruses. Some are spyware.

The reason you get spam is because you are making your email address available to spammers. Using it for everything on the net is not a good practice. Spammers use computers to scan web site, forums like this one and other places looking for email addresses.

I have the Yahoo Mail Plus and use the AddressGuard feature. I allows me to make disposable email addresses to use. When I start getting spam to the disposable address I delete it and the spam stops. You can have up to 10 disposable addresses active at one time. After deleting one, simply make a new one to replace it. I give out the AddressGuard address to friends and family. If they get a Trojan that gets access to their Address Book and I start getting spam, I delete it, tell them the clean their computer, then give them a new address for me.

There seems no way to stop all these spams. Avoid publishing your important email address online, like in your personal profiles, your websites and blogs because spammers have a program that crawls all over the net tp pick up email addresses. Alternative is to use another 'useless' email that you can dispose off whenever you want

Easiest solution:
Get Thunderbird as an email browser:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/

Go to your yahoo webmail page, click option or settings, change your account to POP3, follow the instructions on how to configure Thunderbird.

In Thunderbird and activate the junk mail filter. As mail comes in it can work out if it is junk or not although you do have to check your junk box occasionally to see if there is mail you want. It takes a little time as it is an adaptive filter so you have to train in to a certain extent but it really does work.
