America is the continent. (North, Central and South (i.e., Mexico...Estados Unidos de Mejico (United States of Mexico). Anyone who is from the american continent is american. Like anyone from the European countries are europeans, or from the Asian...or African continents... Correct me... if I'm incorrect but it seems every country has a name. What about the U.S of what name???

Hello!! :o) That's an interesting question. Being a Canadian - I've often wondered why Canada isn't just called the 'United Provinces of America'. You're right - of course - Canadians and Mexicans are actually [also] Americans. [And so are those living in South and Central America] But Canadians never think of themselves as 'Americans' and I don't think Mexicans do either. [But I'm not absolutely sure] Hmmm..... I think the area of North America that has so far been referred to only as the U.S. of A. should find a NAME!! Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

we are the united states of america and i don't really think any one outside of the us is called american... atleast here we don't call anyone else americans... ppl from mexico are mexican, ppl from canada are canadians and so forth. so we do have a name for our country

you US citizens grabbed the name of America for yourself,
the citizens of other countries in the Americas all call themselves by the name of their country - Cubans, Brazilians, Chileans, etc.
if you are an American you are from the USA, and not from Canada or Argentina.
