Why is it that your society does not value deep thinking on subjects but rather encourages quick and sometimes foolhardy action? I am not refering to any perticular incedent or time but just to the steady decline in respect for a clear cut logical argument? I thank you for any insight you may have.

I think all humans are hypocritical and don't like to admit it (or deal with it) so that might have something to do with it.

I guess people are just starting to feel okay (better than okay, fantastic! empowered!) by giving into their selfish urges and valuing material things etc.

I've started doing it myself.. I can't find people in society on the same level as me. The ones who are above and intelligent are usually too arrogant and look down on others, even the ones trying to better themselves, making me bitter.

I find I'm having to bring myself down to the shallow people's levels to try and relate to society in some way and get on with life.

The times they are a-changing. :(

The problem now-a-days is that people can't actually think for themselves, they are just rehashing what someone else has said, what they think is the right thing to say..
So how can the answers make any sense or be clear and logical?

You see ignorant 13 year olds on here (and scarily even 30 year olds) answering serious questions about the Iraq war with simple phrases like "it's all about the oil" when they don't have the slightest clue what they're talking about. But strangely they believe it. ??!

Well regardless of what others may do I think and contemplate on a topic or question from a couple of hours to a couple of days, maybe even months, I guess some of us are deep thinkers and some are not. But Society in general, more so in the larger populated areas are more so now, commonly looking for the easy quick way and will take from books and informatino readily available. Its sad because it takes away the joy of working something out for yourself what feels right to you. I like the inner debate and questioning deep thinking creates.

Hello!! :o) Interesting question. Let me deeply think about it for a minute!! OK. I'm ready now!! lol Seriously - I think we live in a time where 'Now' is better than 'Later'. Where 'Fast' is better than 'Slow'. Where 'ANY answer' is better than No answer'. And all of that is sad. For we often cheat ourselves out of finding more appropriate solutions to the many problems we face each and every day by NOT thinking things through. Sometimes - the 'best answer' TAKES time to FIND. But all of this has more to do - I think - than with just our impatience. I think a lot of it has to do with our own insecurities. And this is what causes many to feel as though it is better to pretend to have an 'answer' than it is to say 'I DO NOT KNOW'!! Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

Because we can't look ourselves in the eye anymore. If we thought about things with any depth, we'd see the screaming of human beings hurt by our actions or our apathy, and we don't want to see that. We've actively chosen to close our eyes and sing, really really loud, to block out deeper thought because deeper thought hurts these days. So we suck up popular culture and entertainment and focus on the trivial and the fleeting, so we can jump from one thing to another without ever penetrating the surface of our minds or facing the consequences of our actions.

We have grown to fear logical argument, because it runs the risk of leading us into places we don't want to go. It's a really dark time to be a voice of reason.

It is depressing and insulting that people are so shallow. I think it is the age of the ones on here. So many are just on it for the fun, and have not acquired many points. You get the bad with the good.
