I just found out that I'm pregnant (approx 5 weeks). I'm currently in Iraq. If I go to the doctor they will send me home within 7 days and I will be punished. My life is in no immediate danger, but it is dusty. I have to do a lot of physical training, and a lot of physical labor. Do you think I am putting my baby in danger? My deployment is over in 1 month. Can I make it back to the states with my unit next month and then seek medical help or should I do it now? If you tell me to go back now, please give good reasons because I will get into quite a bit of trouble for this. Thank you. This is an extremely hard decision for me.

As far as trouble, I can lose money or rank. I intend to get out of the military after I have the baby because I do not have a family care plan.

The father is here with me.

It is against the rules to have inappropriate relationships while in Iraq.

Your baby comes first. You have to do what's best for him/her.

You might miscarry if you do anything too physical, but normal physical activity including carrying, digging, crawling shouldn't be a problem for you or the baby. Do the extra month. You do not need to put your feet up and do nothing just because you're pregnant. You'll get people telling you to go home, but at 5 weeks, you've got a lot of leeway. Email a doctor back home. Get the lowdown on your options. Do another month! Have a cool baby.

Well, In my opinion I think if you were willing to do the deed then be willing to accept the consequences. And having personal experience on the whole Iraq situation( my husband returned from a tour in January), they may say a month but until your on that plane out of Kuwait your not home free. I would fess up for the well being of your baby. Not to mention, when you come back to the states and go to the doctors here, they will be able to tell how far along you are and put one and one together , so they will find out you got pregnant when you were in Iraq.

I am unsure what kind of trouble you would get into, but i am assuming that the father of your unborn child is there in Iraq also? If not how is it that you are 5 weeks pregnant and only have 1 month left. You could chance not telling anyone but there is a chance that you could endanger yourself or a member of your unit. I am unsure how to advise you what to do. Every branch of the Military has a code of conduct. If you tell no one and get back home alright then i would say your lucky, if you miscarry or someone gets hurt saving you because of your condition then would you be willing to accept the consequences of that? You really need to weigh your options!

You need to go now. You are in the most sensitive stage of pregnancy up until 12 weeks. Swallow your pride and do the right thing. And, yes, you are putting your baby in danger. This is the time to take things especially easy. So seek medical help, and go home. But I do hope that you really don't get into too much trouble. Good luck sweetie

This seems to be like a pretty tough situation. If I were you, I would try and leave immediately. Your baby is at a stage where it´s just starting to develop and being in that kind of atmosphere is just not good for it. Dust and dirst in the air is neither good for you nor your baby. Exercising is not a bad thing while pregnant, but I´m pretty sure you have to do more than what would be considered "average". You need to be able to take rests. I am pregnant myself, in the 5th week too, and if you´re like me, you feel pretty tired, sleepy and nauseated most of the time. You need to listen to your body and ask yourself what´s more important to you... baby or career? At the end of the day, it´s your decision, but this is my advice to you as a mother-to-be myself and a woman. Take care, and hope you´ll make the right decision somehow.

Wait it out to avoid G. O. 1, 'cause you need to save you $ for the baby. You'll lose rank and pay if you get an Article 15. I was pregnant at NTC five yrs. ago and didn't find out til after I returned 6 wks later. We got CS gas and everything else and my son is perfectly healthy. Take care.

Why would they punish you? This really shocks me, it's awful. That is discrimination. Men can't get pregnant, therefore there is no similar punishment for them.

The first few weeks of pregnancy are very dangerous for the baby. You have to use care. I will pray for you. Good luck!

you only have just another 4 weeks left. it should be ok for you to stay that long. you have been doing physical training all this time so your body should be in very good shape. but once you get back to the states you shoudl seek medical attention right away

One more month should be okay, but take it as easy as you can in your training/etc. As soon as you get back to the states see your doc asap.
