Why does nearly every politician I see, irrespective of his party of beliefs, give me the impression that he's corrupt or an arrogant pig? Is it just me? I've never seen more than a handfull of them I can stand to look at or listen to. Does politics make them like this or are they already like this?

bit of both actually...

once you are politician, you have the power for influence.
Your action influence and affect many people. You can control so many things as you are the top authority.

One of man's desire is power and they will do anything to get that. Sometime they forget that they are there to help the others, but they end up feeding their ego, hence the corruption and arrogance.

There is nothing bad enough in life that cannot be made even worse through dumping loads of unaccountable money onto it.

Apparently the systematic ruination of virtually any potential candidate by making them hunt for campaign money is like some kind of "free speech" category that must be protected. People usually get confused by that near the end of voicing their dissatisfaction. Don't be confused. Just take a sniff at it. Smell that? Yes, if it doesn't have the pungent odor of a lie, I don't know what does.

And the last part of your question is great. So let me put it this way. Think of someone in your personal life who you think would make a pretty darn good leader in your opinion. Now ask yourself if you would honestly feel comfortable suggesting to them that they try to run for political office.

For the most part they decide to go into politics because they are already corrupt. There are exceptions, though (Reagan). And there are different degrees of corruption. For instance Bush is corrupted (serves the interests of oil industry) but he also has convictions that he is not willing to compromise on. Unfortunately I don't like a lot of his convictions. It is the system to blame and us that are not willing to change the system.

It's the nature of the beast I'm afraid. Now, to be fair, there are seriously some good guys and gals out there who do what they do for the good of everyone...but I'm with you on the majority of them! I feel like all the congressmen and representatives in my area are just all talk and no action whatsoever. I think they get into politics to further their own personal causes, and not for what's best for everyone. I think the majority of them are already prone to the personality type that makes them already like that, but they fine tune their idiodic behavior the longer they are in politics.

because they are already institutionalised by the corrupt system...good politicians has never changed the bad image of politics, instead they are the one who has been changed.
name names? even though how much ideal or perfect a person you think for a certain position is, sooner or later you will see how instantly or gradually he will be compromise to the corrupt way of politics.

Because they can be... just joking....Politicians are not corrupt ,they all have a point to prove, some are Leaders and some just folow, you may not always enjoy what they say ,but this is why democracy is important .everyone has his or her own opinion, and Politicians are the chosen ones to express them. They are our voice ,
they are continuasly in battles ,disputes ,yes ,their profession is what makes them, as us,so,they may be arrogant due to that.
You must never assume that they are corrupt or arrogant, for when you do that ,you lose all faith in your government and its chosen few.

They all enter politics with high ideals and dreams of what they can do for their country.

When they have been elected they come to understand a very different agenda. There is alot of drama, smoke and mirrors and very little else. They soon learn to compromise. The people don't exist for them anymore.

Lets see, firstly because they don't have any other source of living, and they had to compensate on their narrow minded thought with something high, and they don't have enough good standing experienced in their past either, so they have to keep a high profile to get much attention they thought they deserve to get.
