Oh yeah, I saw this and just couldn't get my head around it. Basically the asker said all gays/lesbians were unnatural and going to hell and will suffer for eternity and all that religious claptrap, and then pointed out she wasn't homophobic. Funniest thing I've seen in ages.

They say they're not homophobic (despite being having an irrational hatred of the heterosexually-challenged) so if anyone questions them they can say, "hang on, but I said I'm not homophobic".

It's like me saying "I'm a frog" despite not being green, not living in a pond and not croaking "ribbit ribbit"; but I'm still a frog 'coz I said so.

Phobia implies fear. I think people are uncomfortable with that definition.
I think people who claim not to be homophobic very often are not afraid to say they hate gays or think its wrong. Its just the word that they dont like.
Gays are afraid to come out of the closet sometimes because they feel its wrong and also sometimes because they face prejudice and social proseccusion as well as broken family relationships as a result.
Im not gay and i dont support the practise but you should get some perspective on what they actually go through to come out and then you will realise that it is not neccesarily a choice or indulgence.
to each his own. They dont do any harm to anyone by being what they are and its about time we let them be.

I think nonacceptance of differences in others, shows the insecurities we have ourselves. Which translates into fear.
Christians who dislike homosexuals are not Christian and they suspect this. Add to this their disregard of science, and many still think all homosexuals choose their sexuality.
Most others who hate homosexuals have sexual issues of their own.
In my opinion however, there is nothing wrong with wishing homosexuality did not exist. It is not scientifically natural, even though it occurs in most species.
But the huge chasm that exist between disliking Attention Deficit Disorder (for example) and disliking my child should never be allowed to close.
I am not comparing Homosexuality to a disease, ADD is not a disease but a state of mind. I have it, and it is just the way my brain works, but that doesn't change the fact that I am a human being.
Also you will find (as per your example) that those who have these views are invariably ignorant hicks who either didn't understand or didn't even read their source material.

because they are saying one thing- yet they also believe in another at the same time. hypocritical isn't it? how can one person say something such as 'i don't like what they're (as in gay people) doing because its against god's nature or whatever'- and yet insist they are not homophobes? that doesn't make sense. its like, for example, saying 'i hate black people but i am not a racist'. sorry but in truth you are still a racist.

i am straight myself and yet i don't have a problem with gay and lesbians, in the same way that i don't have a problem with whites. blacks and asians. so gay and lesbian people fancy people of their own gender, what else is different? nothing, that's what. they still have hobbies, jobs, straight friends etc and lead normal lives, just like hetrosexual people.

it amazes and disgusts me that people are allowed to air their homophobic and racist views on Answers and yet Yahoo! don't seem to be the least bit concerned about the extreme nature of those views and to censor them altogether.
and in response to that answer to that question 'if homosexuals are so proud of being gay, why do they find it so hard to come of the closet?' where the asker said it was sick, wrong etc, its people such as them who lack knowledge and understanding and who seem to vent their derogatory views and disregarding the very people they offend.

i wouldn't worry about about it that much- let's face it, if people wish to be ignorant, hateful and rant on about hating gays, then the only people they are disgracing throughout the entire human race are themselves.

By saying that Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by God for this reason does not make on homophobic, i think it was the way the person worded their answer. They probably are homophobic by the way they answered. I am not, however, I am a christian, and my view is that homosexuality is wrong based on biblical teaching. However, sin is sin and lying is a sin also. No one sin is any larger or greater than another. And in the end we will all answer for our sins. To be a part of gossip is a sin, to see your brother doing without and not doing anything about it is a sin, to to commit murder is a sin. Passing judgment on others is a sin, and in the Bible it says that with the measure we use to judge others we also will be judged by. We all should be very careful about the amount of judgement we use on others, simply it is not our place to place judgement that is God's position. We have a very loving and forgiving God, all sins can be forgiven, thanks to Jesus for dieing on the cross. God bless

Felidae is right. "Homophobic" is a stupid word - it means "fear of sameness", which is ridiculous. I can hate something without fearing it, and it is pompous and arrogant of any sector of society to noise it about that because we don't approve of their activities we are scared of them - that they are strong enough or significant enough to pose any meaningful threat. I am what Kinsey called a 0 Male - 0 (on a scale of 0 to 6) being an exclusively heterosexual male. I am nauseated by the thought of homosexual activity. The thought of having any level of sexual contact with another man makes me sick. So, I don't indulge in any level of sexual contact with other men. Simple, eh? It doesn't make me scared of homosexual men (I have gay friends, and couldn't care less what they do in their own bedrooms) and it doesn't make me intolerant, either. But, we live in a politically correct world where absolute acceptance of everything except everything that white, heterosexual males do is regarded as scripture by the hairy armpit brigade. Hence, the peversion of our language and the existence of a stupid word like "homophobic".

A a male I am only "homophobic" about male homosexuals. Guess that sounds like discrimanation but the females are not going to approach me, or bother with me. As for the males I will freely admit to being "homophobic" as you put it.

It's all a big cover-up job isn't it? Just take a look at how many questions contain the phrases
"I'M NOT RACIST BUT.....
"I'M NOT AGAINST GAYS BUT.....
"I'M NOT ANTI -..."
Sorry - it's all a big cover-up.
As soon as you see any of those prefaces, you know full well that they actually mean THEY ARE whatever it is they're claiming not to be!

Interestingly in Leviticius where people quote about "lying with a man" etc they forget the other passages where it says you can rape slaves.

Levitcus 19:20 "If a man has sex with a slave girl he is not to be punished. She is a slave."

Either they both correct or both wrong.
