I do believe the newer generations comming into the post secondary education system are suffering from an intellectual gap.

it seems there is a far greater disparity between the well informed and misinformed people about to enter the workforce.

why? maybe it is political correctness, robbing the students of the chance to form an opinion. if the dont form an opinion(even a wrong one) they cant follow up on it and learn about the history or the situation at hand. instead they are fed a politically correct dogma that leaves them unchallenged in their day to day thoughts.

there is probably more to this situation than just political correctness, but that is all subjective. we need to end up teaching the students to form their own opions and follow what they think is right, not just present the info and let them go home with their ipod then watch the latest survivor...

I think it depends how you look at things.. For one, what I think is quite stupid is a parent putting their child in to a car at the road side of the car and not the pavement side. The door is wide open to oncomming traffic.. No thinking there. On the other hand, Humans have been to space, made some pretty cool stuff and life times are meant to be a little easier than years ago.
There is alot more to know though these days. This seems to be expected of us.

it works both ways i think. There is a greater availability of information on the internet for example and this can inform and educate people. However, the quality of the information is not always good.

We are used to a visual form of communication such as tv to tell us how to think very often, rather than work things out for ourselves. We are spoon fed so to speak. So in this case we have less of a need for reading and writing and working maths and logic out, so we are not always using our brains to full potential.

I blame liberal education that teaches children its alright if you can't spell correctly. Its okay if you have no grasp of grammar. And its no big deal if you can only do maths using your fingers, toes and electronic calculator. That, and pointless soap operas portraying trashy moronic lives on telly.

Yes and lazier too. The electronics age has caused many not to have to think for themselves.

Plus there are many that have a "sheep" mentality.

No, you learn something new everyday. We are always absorbing information.

knowledge is becoming specific...as you have information at your finger tips....no need to remember it, you can just look it up on the net.
