For the same reason that some people think that terrorism and attacks on the U.S. is a recent phenomena and/or an effect of recent U.S. foreign policies and/or the current administration. Simple shortsightedness and no concept of history.

Islamic terrorism has been going on for centuries - long before Israel was a nation, long before the U.S. was a nation.

If one studies the history of Islam and its violent roots, it is not difficult to understand it. Islamists have killed millions of people over the centuries and killing millions more to accomplish the goal of total Islamic rule does not disturb them.

The number of moderate-secular Muslims is declining as true Islam spreads its rage and hatred to every corner of the world. Time is short. Iran may be only months away from obtaining nuclear weapons. There can be no signs of weakness from the western world. There can be no negotiations or deals made with True Islam. There can be no quarter given.

History has taught us one thing: It is us, or them. There is no middle ground with terrorists. True Islam has not changed in 1400 years. It is not going to change now.

I certainly haven't forgotten. However, I also recognize the fact that I'm am statistically much more likely to be harmed in a car accident, or any other way than by the actions of terrorists. If I worried about all the different ways I could get hurt, I would never leave the house. I don't think anyone has forgotten that the US (and most every other country) is the target of terrorists, I just think they have to go on with their lives anyway. In addition, I find this attitude that since the US was attacked that somehow terrorism matters really selfish and disturbing. Terrorism has been going on in many other countries for hundreds of years, and we in the US just pretended it was someone else's problem. This kind of elitist attitude (very common in the current Bush led regime) in my opinion, is one of the major factors which has led to the US being targeted.

I don't think most Americans ever fully realized we are a target of terrorism. You can't forget what you never fully understood. Even after 9/11 Terrorism was something that happened to other people.

I have a better idea what it will take to get people's attention. Nothing short of a major attack that kills so many people that everyone is effected directly will bring about any change.

America probably wouldn't be if it adjusted its foreign policies

That might be worth remembering too

PS: Isitdejav: The US doesn't have a mortgage on civilian casualties:

More Iraqis die every month than Americans died in 9/11

Sri Lanka has lost 15 x as many citizens in Tamil Tiger fighting than the US lost on Sept 11

9/11 was a wake up call, and most people fell asleep again!! Sad to say ( I hope it never does) but it will take something else to happen for people to be like, instead of not going after the terrorists, we should have!! We are doing the right thing.

alright, i'll give you that, but there are reasons for it. however if that is the case then why is the US government spending all our resources in Iraq? why has nothing ever been done about tracking down the people responsible for planning, organizing and financing the attack on new york city and the pentagon?

from all we have been able to learn, the principles in the attack on new york were Saudi nationals, in no way connected to Iraq. yet, here we are five years later no closer to apprehending Usama bin Laden. what's up with that?

you are so right "How soon we forget"

i haven't.

I think unless it happens to them personally they forget about any pain they may have felt at the time. Never forget 9/11

because they believe what the damn press says, half of what you hear on that boom box is not anywhere near the truth!

I know we are a target and I'm sure Iraq is just waiting for us to pull out of there so they can come in and bomb the whole US, no matter where and when. I don't know why so many people don't get that.

USA is target of terrorism because US government support Israel, and they are not fair in their policy.

If USA stops its support to Israel, and if USA stops interfering in the middle east, then it will not be a target of terrorism.
