Satellite or Satellite Pro?? Both are compatible, however from memory the regular Satellite models lack the graphics card or sufficient RAM needed to Vista with Aero...the very reason I spent the little extra and went the Sat Pro myself.
Be aware though that running Vista on a laptop of any kind (at this point before official release) can be a tricky - for the Sat Pro, most of your drivers (audio, bluetooth, hotkeys/buttons Ethernet etc.) can be found on the UK Toshiba site (but strangely not on the American site) - they're all XP at this stage, but can be installed via the compatibility wizard. There also a few Vista drivers on the US site.
BUT - the all important graphics card driver is the catch. DO NOT WHAT EVER YOU DO INSTALL THE XP GRAPHICS DRIVER - you'll blue screen on reboot! There is a patched version of the nVidia driver which has been released for desktops running Vista RC1, but if you are not reasonable experience in IT, I would not recommend using it as it isn't entirely bug-free on the Sat Pro, and you'll need some level of understanding to troubleshoot.
Also, be aware that there is a BIG difference btwn "Vista Ready" and "Vista Capable" ...the latter usually meaning you'll need to upgrade one or more hardware elements.
The Sat Pro is actually a really good option for those wanting to make the move to Vista (don't even bother with Dell at this stage!). I would however recommend avoiding the basic Satellite models, at to wait till official release if not experienced in beta software...
Oh - just to respond to an earlier post, Vista Basic does NOT require a graphic card....the card is required for Aero and accompanying features!
And a 128mb card is more than fine - the PC I'm sitting on typing this only has a 128mb geForce 6600 card (18mnths old) and is running Vista an absolute treat...has done for nearly six months, and I run a stack of high-end graphics/video software on this PC just fine.

It is vista capable however u wont be able to use all the bells and whistles (especially graphics) of Vista and it may be with Vista installed. The best thing u can do to improve ur performance in XP or later in Vista is to add at least another 512mb of ram.

Minimum requirements for Vista are 800MHz processor 512MB Ram and 3D capable graphics with pixel shading capability
This is for Vista Basic .... the more machine you have the better version of Vista you can run .
Top end Vista requires P4 Processor (or equivilent) 1GB Ram and 256 Graphics
