I was a TV personality as a child, but that was in the '50's and I think "the person" that saw me wouldn't remember today, probably didn't have the TV on for that matter!
60's & 70's I liked "Wild Bill Hickock", " The Lone Ranger"," Wagon Train", "Gunsmoke", "Bonanza", "Bat Masterson", "Wyatt Earp", "Roy Rodgers", "Skye King", " Red Skelton","Perry Mason", "Ripcord", "Have Gun Will Travel", "Empire", "The Untouchables", "I Love Lucy", "Star Trek", " Ed Sullivan", "Hockey Night in Canada", "The Plouffe Family" and multitude of others...
Boy! there were a lot of "Dusters", all the cowboys were clean, shaven, and not one an "anti-hero", even Clint Eastwood was nice guy on "Rawhide" wouldn't say poop if he was standing in it...
The comediens, Imogene Coco what a blast!, Red Skelton what a gag and skit man, talk about delivery, him or Lucy gotta love em! There were many, many, more George & Gracie, Sid, Benny...and Jackie Gleason it was hard being funny with no "blue" humour...
There were variety shows, hosted by the "standards of the industry" and featuring entertainers "the flavour of the month ones, the one hit wonders" Do Wah Diddy...
"Empire" was our "Dallas", "Perry Mason" was our "LA Law", "Wagon Train" became our "Star-Trek", "Gunsmoke" our "Deep Space Nine"
Some were Canadian made like "The Pouffe Family" and was our Archie Bunker with a larger family and no racial slurs, good comedy!
Some I didn't mention were local programing and good stuff!
I can remember, the first thing, I ever saw "MOVE" on TV, (after a month or more of "Test Pattern") and it was " it's Howdy Doody time, it's Howdy Doody time" [ I think, I can almost remember the whole jingle) it was about 10:00 pm and live from California, I was in Ontario Canada, I may have the times wrong I was only 5 or 6 at the time. I also saw Elvis Presley (his first appearance) on Ed Sullivan that year,
NEWS FLASH!! we interupt your programming! former CKGN-TV celebrity, and star of the popular TV series "TEE PEE Pow Wow", struck down by runaway taxi..more at 11:00..."I think...I should have put popular before star instead of TV". The year was 1957 and it was Oct. 31st. I was performing at a Halloween Party, I think they called it "acting up" back then and "ADT" now...Spent six months in a cast, probably would have been killed, if not for an Angel...
I watched, "The Beatles" (first appearance) on Ed Sullivan I was 13 in grade 8.
I also made the CBC National News @ 11:00 pm, the year was... Dec/ 26/ 1966, "6 teenagers survive horrific train-car crash", first time ever, that there were, any survivors at the notorious crossing! I was driving, we weren't drinking, there was no radio, and we didn't know what "grass" was.. yet! Hey! at least they didn't say "former popular child star of TV and Parties goes wrong"- more after these messages- "way and is struck down by train" The CPR sent me a bill for $50.00 damage to train, all there employees were drinking on the job, you could smell them over the spewn gas.
Went home from school early Nov. 22 / 1963 just to watch the news. I think it was 3:30 in the afternoon just after recess we were let out early...The Principal informed us just before recess of JFK...
I saw Ruby shoot Oswald, RJK shot, MLK shot, I saw the War in Viet Nam most everyday my older sister lived in Saigon, She worked in the Canadian Embassy.
I watched "Neil Armstrong step-on to the Moon." .July 1969 , I was married for a month, a father two months later Sept 29/
I watched that 1st landing again in 1971, but this time it was on a colour TV, or maybe I should say color, the TV belonged to a neighbour (bor) he was in the American Air Force. ( we shared our base with the Americans because we had an American supplied nuclear missle air base in our city) I was a father to two girls then, and they grew up watching a 20" Magnavox just like Eugene's...
Ya! I watched TV a bit now and then...It was like it is today, a magic trick, watch this don't see that! GOOD NIGHT and GOOD LUCK!

There were so many shows and so few channels.
Captain Penney, Barnaby, Woodrow the Woodsman, Franz the Toymaker, Houlihan and Big Chuck, Superhost, The Ghoul. Local shows in Cleveland, OH
Captain Kangaroo, just about every Saturday morning cartoon, and yes, I remember the Banana Splits (Tra La La, Tra LaLa La. I searched, found, and downloaded this theme song earlier this year!)
Jeez, I almost forgot Ultra Man. 1970's series is now out on DVD.
