Should the state be required to bear the cost of funerals and burials for dying inmates? Why or why not? This is very important! Thanks a ton!

BY THE WAY........
once incarcerated, inmates become STATE WARD....so the state is obligated to care for them. So if an elderly inmate is dying, should the state provide them with hospice? or just let them die?

I think we should throw them in a pit unless they or their family wants to pay for it.....why should we pay more for criminals when we could be spending it on more important things like healthcare social security infrastructure, especially the ones who are serving a death penalty or those who have recieved life in prison....they didn't have respect for life during their time on this planet why should we pay to respect theirs

I think you will find that most burials take place within the confines of the prision or mental hospital at very little cost, maybe lower than the cost of live maintenance. In another case there is a small graveyard in Brickfield Street North Parramatta where they have buried over two thousand prisoners and patients from the early system. This suggest that they stack buried them and did not pay much on the task. In the case of pauper burials outside the prison system, the State foots this bill and rightly should foot the bill for prisoners whose relatives are not fussy, or not able to pay..

The states already take care of such things, usually because the inmate's family doesn't have the inclination or the resources to pay for the funeral.

Since cremation is usually the cheapest alternative, I'm betting that this is what happens in most instances.

i think if the family doesn't want to do anything, then yes the state should take care of the burial..but just like the basics...and defiantly if the inmate had received the death penalty.

If there are no other family prearrangements, I think a cremation or pine box burial would be a reasonable taxpayers' expense.

They harmed society and lived at society expense so I am not sure. Maybe their earning should be used to fund this.

i would think so. if they are in the care of the gov't and pass away, we should at least pay for a cremation.
