Modernday...: That's just stupid. Democracy only means, People Rule. Technically you could actually have a Communist Democracy per se. See what thinking outside a think tank gets you? Go figure!

sooj: That's a pretty lame response. To not see the dangers of free enterpirse eventually buying politicians to further corporate agendas is not only neive.. it's dangerous.

In other words, if good people don't stand up to companies buying out their watchdogs, who will keep them from doing whatever they want with whomever they want?

this is an ill-conceived question. Dictatorships, Monarchies, Democracy's, Republics (that is what we are folks if you didn't know ) and Theocracies are forms of governance.
Communism, Capitalism, Socialism have more to do with how a state runs it's economies. on has little to do with the other. There are socialist democracies, capitalist dictatorships and theocracies etc..

We really do need better civics classes in our educational system folks on this we can all agree whatever our politics.

I dug this little gem up a while back. Enjoy.

A key to the danger presented by the Trilateral Commission is its "Seminal Peace," written for them by Harvard Professor Samuel P. Huntington in the mid '70s. In the paper Professor Huntington recommended that democracy and economic development be discarded as outdated ideas. He wrote as co-author of the book The Crisis of Democracy, "We have come to recognize that there are potential desirable limits to economic growth. There are also potentially desirable limits to the indefinite extension of political democracy. A government which lacks authority will have little ability short of cataclysmic crisis to impose on its people the sacrifices which may be necessary."

.....Remember that George Bush was a member of the Trilateral Commission and only resigned as an expediency to get elected. He believes wholeheartedly in the Commission and its ideas and ideals. We have elected a President who believes that democracy and economic development must be discarded- I tell you now that he is working toward that end. Bush is still a member of the Order and the CFR.

Say`s it all really. I`d like to see the media slap this kind of truth all over their front pages. There is some sinister stuff happening, that`s for damn sure.

I imagine that global capitalism is devouring the potential of small-scale capital (small businesses). And large-scale capital will, yes, eventually devour democracy.

Far worse and far sooner than we are currently prepared for in the American mindset.

Yes, one day we all will become comunists. And we will have the national borders disbanded. And the rich people will put together armys to fight for land for their "clan" or supporters.

Democracy isn't possible without capitalism.

I don't see too many democratic countries without it, do you?
