i can tell you a few things since i'm greek myself ! modern greek are very liberated and pretty much into fashion. young people look after their appearance very much, they are into technology a lot, and are very dynamic and spiritual people. i guess, that's a greek feature in general. we are loud, expressing feelings whenever and wherever, and give a lot of attention to our friends. that's one reason why in greece the term "shrink" doesn't exist. hanging out with our buddies, is a form of psychotherapy, going out and have fun is another one. i don't know if you 've heard of greek ways of entertainment, but they are many and they vary ! the truth is, that as modern greeks, we don't read much about our ancestors, philosophy, history, architecture, e.t.c. I have to tell you, though, that people are not responsible for this. i guess, the educational system has to do a lot with this problem, we are not proud of having a good one(i'd say, the opposite), by not encouraging young people to really learn history and really understand it. However, there are people who are trying to change this but they are few. Anyway, to sum it up, i would say, that we live in a country, with so many special features(ofcourse they are not all good !!!), that make us unique ! one thing that really has survived and it's reserved by our ancestors, is our free spirit and will to move on and live good whatever problems we have in everyday life and always to smile and have fun. !!!(it's the climate, what can you say .. SUN,SUN, SUN..here it still feels like summer..)

I agree with Rhitorica, I think a lot of it had to do with being away at War for so long with only men, just like sailors, prisoners etc.. A lot of what you're talking about is Historical Speculation, since in terms of Greeks, The ones you hear about being Gay / Bi-Sexual are usually Alexander The Great, who I think was Gay, you hear of Achilles, but is their evidence that he existed? Besides his name inscribed on a tablet in Çanakkale province, in northwest Turkey, southwest of the Dardanelles under Mount Ida (Mount Ida & Surrounding area is "Troy"), there is no Scientific Historical Facts of his existance. I personally think he did, he was probably a great warrior. People tend to only read portions of information, when this happens, the person gets an "incomplete" view of the entire story. And what about the Amazon's? Were they not Lesbian / Bi-Sexual? They only mated with Men ONE day out of the ENTIRE YEAR! They were also said to have lived in Pontus, which is part of modern day Turkey. Still, it's an interesting question.
