Yes, for sure. Most people have excuses in their mind for everything they do. It is called "rationalization".

Rationalize: to ascribe (one's acts, opinions, etc.) to causes that superficially seem reasonable and valid but that actually are unrelated to the true, possibly unconscious and often less creditable or agreeable causes.

To do what is right, you should find trusted and upright persons, such as your parents, or teachers, or a minister, or a counsellor, or even just a good friend who is well educated and moral, and then discuss your thoughts and intentions with that person. You do not have to accept the other person's opinion, but by listening to someone else's point of view, you can maybe become more objective about yourself.

Very often the other person will tell you things about yourself that you already know, but you did not put much significance into it. The other person may weigh things differently, show you different values.

Sometime another person can show you how others see you, that you never realized before.

I would presume you are referring to conscience and not conscious or consciousness. In my view these are totally different.
Conscience is the Morality chart imbedded in the mind. Anything one thinks/does is instantly checked internally( like the spellcheck in yahoo) . Immediately thereafter it applies to the socially developed Right or wrong scale . The person can , then , choose to go by the conscience or trample it and go the other way.Conscience is like the alarm indicator. You can overrule it if you decide. Then it is only a small step to justfiy the wrong as right.

Consciousness ( or it is called also as Awareness) has no role to say right or wrong. Its job , and an etrenal one at that, is to illuminate everything that we see . It is just a witness to the whole drama of life.

The conscience you ask? Yes that is your Id, and it has a built in shelter to be aware and to protect you from speech because you think first, as the words are formulated in the brain they do not blurt out your mouth until we allow that. So while our conscience may be telling us to tell the truth the otherside is the words you hear in your mind may be telling you to lie And here comes the confusing question,Where does the conscience lay? Does it lay down with the bad or the good. The twist comes now so get ready, a conscience it is the thought pattern of right or wrong from birth and the choice is ours to justify whether it is right or wrong. In cases of a bare faced lie it is a psyched up situation as as actor gets into character and becomes the role. Many people lie and it is not out of character and their conscience lies where as what is better for their survival, so yes we lie. There is a problem with multiple personalities that begins from someone who lies consistantly to oneself as well from the fact they are afraid of getting caught. When they cannot conquer the fear the personality splits into multiple variables inevitably to protect the child within. Read more in psyche books for it will become more pragmatic and less problematic.

What is meant by conscious has to be clarified.
Mind has two aspects.. logical and intuitional... The logical is very clear it does communicate in verbal and non-verbal thoughts, and such thoughts can be almost reproduced in-tact.
The intutional is often called 'heart' , conscience, feelings, etc.. all this because the converted-into-words form does not appear logical most of the times.. at the best it may appeal to our logical sense as 'morally justified' !
Now with this ( if this can be acceptable), then , intuition also is just a refined judgement, and since it does not follow logic, the very nature of its perception is 'more adaptability' to the situation, and therefore appears to be 'honest'... a fairly reliable source to judge too.
The consciousness, (the self-awareness within), does not speak at all... it just perceives, if at all(meaning, if a person enhances his perception level beyond sense organs), else, it remains just a subtle witness.

A sociopath can. They have absolutely no conscious and no concern as to right or wrong. They go the way their brain tells them without any concern as to who it will hurt or if society deems in inappropriate. Some of the most evil and vile persons in history have been sociopaths; Hitler, Dahmer, Bundy. There is no convincing needed by these people, they just do whatever they feel with no thought of consequences. Google or Wikipedia them.

I believe the conscious never lies. People just choose to ignore it. that's when people start coming up with excuses that justify their wrong actions. Those excuses can be lies that help people quiet their conscious. I know this because I've done it before and I work around people who do it all the time. They lie so much to your face that they start to believe their own lies. I'm sure if you really listen to yourself and other people you'll know this as well.

I believe so. Logic is a two way sword we have. Just as it can help us reach the bottom of a truth, it can often be used by us subconsciously to cheat on our conscience. Of course, we keep coining logic to substantiate ourselves opposite others all the time - however, in addition, we sometimes do it to even cheat ourselves - this happens when our ego rules over us too strongly and we do not have the courage to face the reality - it happens only as a survival instinct in extreme cases and only temporarily - sooner or later our conscience gets back to proper shape to discern the truth.

Generally, there is a code of ethics that is accepted by most people and societies. This code point you toward what is considered right or wrong. Yes, one can "convince" themselves that a wrong act is right. But if the code of ethics says its wrong, then you should take another look at your reasoning.

Yes, if that person convinces themselves that the lie is true and they repeat this belief over and over again. They are denying reality and they do not want to admit that they have lied and do not want to deal with the consequences of whatever it is that they lied about.
