There are two good ways to prevent most pop-ups from happening. The first is a setting in your web browser. In Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu then select Internet Options... Then click on the Privacy Tab and you will see a setting to Block Pop-Ups. If your are using Mozilla Firefox(which I recommend), Click on the Tools menu then select Options... Then click on the content tab and you will see a setting that prevents pop-ups.

The second way is in the Control Panel. Click on the Start button and click on Control Panel. Double-Click on the Administrative Tools Icon, then double-click on Services. You will see a list of services, usually organized by alphabetical order. Find Messenger and make sure it says "Disabled" in the third column over. If not, double-click on messenger and disable messenger. This is a service that allows messages to be sent between computers on a network, but spammers have found a way to use this service to send spam messages. In fact, some of the messages sent in this manner are for a program you can buy that disables the very types of messages they are sending! All this program does is disable the messenger service in the control panel, which anybody can do if they know how. Hope this info helps.

You can usually go to the tools area and go under internet options and check for pop-up blocker. The pop-ups will at least be reduced by 50% by some chance that's it. Or you can buy pop-up blocker CD but don't try 2 download from the net as it might be some sort of spyware or virus. CDs may have different range prices the costly ones will do slightly of an efficient work whilst the not so pricy ones will just do the basic requirements(from experience).Oh wells, I could sympathise with you as I'm also very irritated by pop-ups. (:Good Luck!

Which browser you are using? most of the browsers have their own inbuilt pop-up blocker, but some sites will act as server and disable pop-up blocker. Goto tools and then click on pop-up blocker to see if it is unchecked.
The other way is to download a pop-up blocker from internet. google and yahoo provides free pop-up blocker with their toolbar. You may try it out for yourself!
