US production of Asian horror is pitiful. The industry just does not get the idea of Asian horror is in the mythos that drives it. It seems to go beyond good and evil as we see it, but horror as a living entity whose victims are trapped in it not as if in a morality play but more just because you've encountered it.

Grudge 2 overplayed the two great originally scary devices of the original Ju-On. But it was overuse to a fault of REPETITIOUS startle factor. Can you say "boo' too often? Yes "indeedy-do" this movie does. The hands of the hideous murdered wife grabbing people... but this time over and over and over. The same for the pathetic son staring at everyone concerned. After a half dozen appearances I remember the child "this boy is Ignorance" hiding under the cloak of the Ghost of Christmas Past from the Simms version of "Christmas Carol" being more sincerely frightening.

If you would like to ecperience some good horror, get the DVD's of nearly any Tartan Asia Extreme... you'll have to read subtitles, but they're the real thing.

I did enjoy seeing S.M. Geller's death scene, too bad she couldn't have pulled the creepy witch Willow along with her to her fall unto cement...

all I have to say is that its much, much better than the first one. Although its Rated PG-13, it seemed more like an R-rated film to some extent.

As the previews show, Sarah Michelle Gellar returns along with a whole new cast including Amber Tamblyn who plays her sister. The movie starts out a little slow but eventually gets back into 1st gear and continues right back to that darn creepy house.

The movie takes place in both Tokyo and North America flipping back and forth. The movie gets confusing at times by doing this and kind of makes you wonder what does it have to do with the rest of the movie.

The acting was decent and doesn't downplay the movie at all. There were many more genuine scary scenes than the 1st and will give you something to talk about after the movie is over. Unlike other U.S. horror flicks which rely on computer graphics and special effects to scare its audience, this movie uses the basics and gives you that true jump-out-of-your-seat scare.
The movie is about an hour and a half long and goes by pretty smooth after the first 15 minutes. If you were a fan of the 1st Grudge, go see this one and you won't be disappointed. Its full of twists and turns and leaves room for another sequel.

I would recommend this movie to all and hope everyone goes to see it. Forget all the other movies in theaters like The Texas Chainsaw movie because that was just crap. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

U.S. Box Office: $20,825,300 (and counting!)

My grade: 9/10 *

Worse than The Grudge 1

Undoubtly worse than the original Japanese version.

If you still not watch that, then save the money and go to watch Saw 3 coming week.
