I had my blood pressure done today and i was told that it is extremely low. It was something like 106/96. What is a normal blood pressure and what does it all mean?

It wasnt at the doctor. I went to the gym today and had my blood pressure checked and also my height, weight and heart rate. I was told in school that i had low blood pressure and that was what was causing me to faint and collapse but that was years ago. I hate it when people get on their high horse and say "you should have done this or this..". Just dont answer the question if you dont have a good answer

The published ideal blood pressure is 120/80 (or less!), but this varies between individuals and does not cause a concern until it reaches a sustained level of 140/90.

There are two links below. One is general information on blood pressure; how it's measured, what it means, etc. The other is an article on low blood pressure. It may help answer your questions and calm your fears. This reference was difficult to find. The major medical concern is with high blood pressure, not low. Low BP is a good thing. Your heart doesn't have to work as hard to circulate blood through your body...which means it will last longer.

It's fine, in fact it's good. If your blood pressure is low then your heart rate will be a little faster to compensate. It's high blood pressure you don't want. THe down side to low blood pressure, is that you will be prone to light headedness. Make sure you eat regularly and keep cool in the summer months and this will stop any faint feelings that you may or may not get.

106/96 is not that low of a blood pressure. 120/80 is considered a normal pressure. If your pressure truly was 106/96, I would be concerned about your diastolic number, 96. I would have your pressure rechecked to make sure.....if you are still concerned call your doctor......please read the article below, under "What abnormal results mean ". This should help. Good luck

the normal blood pressure is 120/80 for adults...

low bp means there is poor circulation on the body. but normally.. your body will compensate on that naturally... by releasing few amounts of renin hormones or adrenaline hormones in the body to slightly constrict your blood vessels and increase your bp till it becomes normal.

But if you always feel dizzy... and feel weak.. and has low bp for a long period of time... go see a doctor.

It means ur blood pressure is lower than normal limits. It means the pressure of the blood circulating around the body is lower than normal.

U should have asked ur doctor if u werent sure.

normal is 120/80 for adults usually...but it all varies with ur height n weight as well, so if ur really tall, it could be higher, but if ur shorter, it cud be be a lower number. it also varies with age.
