I am in need of having a pair of pants made. They need to be nice and form fitting and boot cut. (they are for showing horses)
I am having someone make them for me, however, she needs me to get measured by a seamstress before I send her the fabric.

I was hoping I could do this myself, I just need to know what measurements I need to get and how to properly obtain them.

Thanks!

1. You'll need to measure around your waist, for this you need to determine where you want to wear your pants. If you wear them higher up then measure higher up. If you wear them a little lower, measure lower.

2. The measurement of your hips, first one should be taken at where your hips start (hip bones) and second one around the fullest part of your butt.

3. The rise of the pants. This is from the crotch up to the waist band.

4. Inseam, from crotch to heel.

5. Since you want them fitted you'll need to measure around your legs at the fullest part of your thigh and then at your knee. You'll need to measure the distance from the top of your inner thigh to your knee for them to be fitted at your thigh and knee properly.

6. The width at the bottom of the pants will depend on you, how wide you want the boot cut. I'm a size 4 and my boot cut jeans measure 20" in circumference at the bottom hem. They usually stay the same measurement for different sizes though.

If the person that is making these for you is using a pattern they'll be able to figure out from the pattern what size you would be and make any needed changes so they'll fit you perfectly.

u need ur waist and hips naturally . u also need ur inseam which is taken from the top of ur inner thigh to the length u want the pants to go down to. u would really b better off getting someone to measure u as it is very hard to measure urself, especially ur inseam. u know, usually by the time u buy the material and go thru all the work to make these pants, it is almost as cheap to buy them and not near the aggrivation. good luck.

You can't do it yourself. In order to get proper measurements, someone will need to do it for you. Here's what you'll need...

Waist measurement (around belly button)
Hip measurement (around fullest part of your hips)
Inseam measurement (from your crotch to your heel, or wherever you want the pants to end)
Outseam measurement (from your hip to your heel, as above)

If they need to be form fitting, I would also measure the circumference around your thigh, at the fullest part right at the top. Then I'd measure the circumference of your thigh just above the knee cap and also measure the inseam and outseam from your crotch/hip to your knee.

That should cover it. Please don't do it yourself, you need to be standing up straight to get correct measurements! Have someone else do it for you. And do it a couple times to make sure it's right.

If there's a clothing store where you know the clerks really well, they might do it for you for free (if you are good customer). If you need them *right* now, though, the other hints are better.
