I was told as a child that this song was about a little boy trying to contact his girlfriend because her mother moved her away, but I know a guy that insists it is about a man and his girlfriend. Which is it?
Memphis, Tennessee (song lyric)
Long Distance Information give me Memphis Tennessee.
Help me find a party trying to get in touch with me.
She could not leave her number, but I know a place to call.
'Cos Uncle took the message and he wrote it on the wall.
Help me information get in touch with my Marie
She's the only one who'd phone me here from Memphis Tennessee.
Her home is on the South Side, high upon a ridge
Just a half a mile from the Mississippi bridge.
Help me information, more than that I cannot add -
Only that I miss her and all the fun we had.
But we were pulled apart because her Mum did not agree
And tore apart our happy home in Memphis Tennessee.
Last time I saw Marie she's waving me goodbye
With hurry-home-drops on her cheek that trickled from her eye.
Marie is only six years old, information please
Try to put me through to her in Memphis Tennessee.

My husband thought it was a man and his daughter; I thought it was two little kids that were separated by her mother moving her away, thus they could no longer play "house". I don't know. It sounds too juvenile to be a daddy, but it does say "tore apart our happy home". Really there is no evidence one way or the other unless you could contact the author... Your guess is as good as mine.

I think you might be right about it being a little boy. I thought at first a father but then i started thinking that a little bot would only know a description of the place she lived. Plus his uncle took the message. I am sure if it was a father he would not be just asking for Memphis Tennessee I think he would be asking for the mothers name.

Sounds to me like a father trying to find his daughter....She was six when she waved good-bye. Hurry home in her tears.....etc..etc.. What it say, something about her Mom did not agree....and the Uncle wrote the number down. Yeah...It's about a father and daughter...
sound good? Makes sense to me and I've never heard the song before.....
You know if you go to lyrics on your search engine, sometimes they give out meanings of songs as well.
Good luck ! ! !

you may want to do some different techniques. keep in mind that the more youthful woman must be addressed as "omit" even as the daddy's female friend must be "Ms": Mr John Jones and Ms Mary Smith omit Susie Jones Mr John and omit Susie Jones Mrs Mary Smith Mr John Jones Ms Mary Smith omit Susie Jones

I say daughter too. "Her mom did not agree, and torn apart our happy home in Memphis Tennesse" pretty much answered it for me.

I think its about his daughter then... I would have said girlfriend though until you said Marie was only 6.

I always thought it was about a father and his daughter, and the mother divorced the father.
