Why would any gay person want to be a right wing conservative? Why be part of a party that looks down on you for your sexual preference? I just don't get this.

I don't get it either. Sounds like a relationship between the Nazis and a Jewish community!
However, I have spoken to some, and they are just conservative in their political views. Many gays are members of gay churches which replicate the mainstream Christian church as well. That whole scene doesn't work for me, because I am liberal in most aspects of my views. I do think we all have some balance in us, but to me, the basic rule of thumb is that I find it ineffective to support any kind of a system that cannot support me in return!

Well, I guess I'm the only conservative who also happens to be gay (well, bisexual, actually). Interesting. For me, it has to do with the fact that my bisexuality is not a political thing; it's a sexual thing. Just because I'm not straight doesn't instantly make me liberal or progressive. I refuse to live like that.

As for belonging to a party that condemns my choices in life- well, that's not the official party line, although some would like to paint it out that way. They also have a stand on a lot of things I don't agree on, but my beliefs resonate more with Republicans than with Democrats. Hence I am a log cabin Republican*.

That's all there is to it.

*Actually, the more time goes on, the less I like either party- they seem to be about the same except for hot-button, controversial issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc.. Nobody is fiscally conservative and both sides are extreme about different things. More often than not, I identify as libertarian, since it better fits me.

As a life long Democrat, I don't get it either, but then I don't get republican's period. One of my grandmothers told me to watch out for homosexuals," you can always which ones are (fill in your own derogatory term) cause they won't look at you straight in the eyes". My other grandmother told me EXACTLY the same thing about republicans.

I find the whole idea pretty disgusting, like a 60's family who considers themselves progressive because they had a black housekeeper and they let her eat in the kitchen and not on the back porch.

If you are registered Republican you get to vote in Republican primary election and vote for the least homophobic candidate. Then in the general election, you vote for the Democrat. This way, you can vote against a homophobic Republican twice in the same election cycle :)

Self hatred. Or they feel that their economic interest trumps their social interest or a combination of both. Either way makes no sense to me. Like a mallard joining ducks unlimited.

Omg!!! You are so right. It's not an oxy-moron to be a gay republican, it's pure moronic! Why belong to a group that disallows your whole existance.

it makes no sense to me that a gay/lesbian would want to be Republican. it's like someone black wanting to be in the KKK, or a Jew wanting to be a Nazi.....
