I mean maybe we could afford a better border control. Maybe more goverment inspections so we dont eat soiled spinach. Maybe taxes arent the problem maybe its how we spend our money?

taxes are not spent by our govt ... taxes pay the interest on the national debt ... the federal reserve gets your taxes AND they print paper money from nothing to loan to the govt for projects/wars/ect ... we could change the system and eliminate the "middle-man" in the form of an illegal central bank-tax scheme .. and restore the money powers back to congress and the people to whom they properly belong ... the govt could control and print money to finance itself without taxes ... this is a fundamental solution and not a radical or new one either ... its been used by several presidents throughout our history and it is THE solution to our money and tax problems today ... good luck getting it changed though .. theyre dug in deeper than an alabama tick ... and they killed kennedy for trying to abolish the FED,

Unfortunately taxes are a necessary evil. As much as I dislike seeing my gross pay cut due to FICA, State, and Federal taxes, I know it is necessary for the well-being of my city, state, and country. Imagine an America without taxes: unpaved roads, dangerous bridges, no military, no police. That's just the beginning. There are definitely areas that the government could improve upon, without taxes, where would the revenue to make these improvements come from?

As far as tax revenue being spent inappropriately, I agree it definitely happens. I do not know if things like the infected spinach could be prevented. It is probably impossible for the government to inspect each and every vegetable that is sold in our supermarkets. Border control, yes that can be improved as well. I think it is more a question of how scarce resources should be allocated. As you said, it may very well be a problem with how we spend our money, and perhaps our priorities are misplaced.

Taxes aren't evil. That's absolute nonsense. Taxes are a necessary part of any government. I don't want a government that can't afford a standing army or road work or disaster relief. Some do, but then, I think that would change after about a week of living in anarchy.

Overtaxation is certainly not a good thing, but the concept of taxes=bad is just another bumper sticker meant to scare people into voting a certain way. You find me the politician who wants to abolish taxes, and I'll show you a guy willing to work for free.

Yes they are and you are correct that we have a problem regarding how we spend our money. If it were not so crazy and hair-brained, I would laugh at those who want to give our irresponsible Congress even more of our money to spend, rather than holding them accountable for controlling costs and spending our tax money efficently.

When was the last time Congress ever cut spending (in real terms) even through times of enormous deficits?

Taxes should not be punitive and are not a mechanism to be used to implement "Robin Hood" policies of leftists. There is no finite pie of wealth out there from which we all eat, but there is a finite number of people from whom you can squeeze more tax revenue (usually with unwelcome results). Harm or abuse the goose that lays the golden eggs and all will suffer, including Congress who will wonder why they should have to control their gluttony.

Our tax dollars are the reason we enjoy the standard of living we have in the U.S. and yes how we spend the money does reflect in the amount of time it takes to complete a task. That is why we should research before we vote to make sure the candidates we choose are doing some good with our money and our freedoms....

Of course they are necessary. People just don't like to pay them... but at the same time those same people want all sorts of special programs and government help. Go figure.

And yes, taxes are misspent... way too much. So, more taxes is NOT the answer... better spending controls and smarter budgets and organization is.

Yes, taxes are a necessary evil. And we don't spend that tax money right or efficiently.

Unfortunately taxes suck because we don't get to choose how the money is spent. for example. i would put none of my tax money into making war. i would place alot of it into the public heath system. to me choosing what happens with that money would be true democracy. but we do need taxes.

Yes... I only object to how they are being spent, how they are being collected and that the middle class is paying a disproportionate amount... but without them we would have anarchy.
