This inequity is due to our racist liberal establishment. They "liberals" tell black people that they are inferior. On the one hand they "liberal politicians" go to black Americans and say hey you are being oppressed by America vote for me and I will see to it that you get benefit X,Y, & Z. On the other hand they implement policies that will ensure that black Americans are always viewed as inferior.

Example a black person graduates from a prestigous university and hopes to work on Wall St. He submits his credentials and by all appearances of this persons resume they are a good candidate but here is the problem for the people hiring them. Did this person get accepted and graduate from this fine university because they are above average intelligence or was it because they got in due to affirmative action. The people doing the hiring deciede to go with a white candidate because they KNOW that there was no possibility that this person recieved any special treatment. This black graduate then thinks that America is racist and won't hire them because they are black. The actual reason is that black students are given a free pass by the liberal policticians and school administrators thus guarnateeing that they will always be thought of as just those poor dumb blacks that can't do anything for themselves.

Or how about Miss Black America what are the hollywood racists saying by putting on this charade. Oh of course your beautiful and bright young black woman but WE "the liberal hollywood establishment" know that you are not as pretty or as bright as a white girl so we have created this special Miss Black America contest just for you and the other inferior black women.

B.E.T. is just an extention of this idiotic line of liberal thought. Everyone knows that this country was once totally racist but I think this dark age has for the most part passed. The new generation are much less concerned about race all except for the liberals among us who want to keep racism alive and burning bright.

The only way black Americans will be thought of as equals is if they are treated as equals. That means no affirmative action. No saying you didn't get the job because of racism and yes no more black only forums such as B.E.T. and Miss Black America.

There are people today like Al Sharptin and Jesse Jackson who profit from the continued division of the races and they are not going to go away without a fight. "see article below" and do some research. Everyone should boycott corporate sponsers of B.E.T. and the like. Let the corporations know that you will no longer tolerate thier soft bigotry of black only anything.

It isn't necessarily it is black only entertainment but the majority of the demographic that watches the shows on there are black. Just as we have the gay channels, mexican channels, video game channels, Oxygen, Spike TV, etc. To call the channel black is to identify it as programming that would appeal to a black audience. If there were to be a White Entertainment Television (WET, LOL, sorry thats funny to me) what would the program be that would set it aside to be different then what is already available.

The Black Movie Awards are recognizing black actors and their contributions to Hollywood. For the majority of the time since the silver screen has made movies blacks were generally excluded from winning big awards. To show unification and support for black actors the BMA's were created.

For the question of would it be racist to make a White Movie Awards, no not necessarily, but then again why not a German-American Movie Awards or a British-American Movie Awards? As whites are predomiately represented in the Oscars and other awards shows it would seem to do so would imply racism.

this question was asked a few weeks ago by someone else also...I am 100% white, but have to say in defense, television and such for a long time was white oriented. Many forms of entertainment oriented to white people, so if there are now "black" channels, awards, so be it. I am not part of that culture, so I don't have an avid interest in it. But there are talented people in all races, and they deserve to be recognized as well as "white" people. I don't watch BET, not my thing, but others do, just like there is Spanish channels, I don't watch cause' I can't understand a word of it, but others do, so let them have their programming that is wanted by their viewing audience, that is why we can always change the channel if it isn't what we are interested in....

To answer your question honestly here you would have to look at it from a broader spectrum. It is "racist", or what we call "racism" here in America. Our people are fed so much junk from the higher ups that we don't know up from down. It's no different than a mexican not being able to be turned down when trying to purchase a new vehicle. It's all part of their plan to cause descension among "people", cause that's what we are,"people".The more descension amongst us the more we are bickerring and fighting amongst each other.Which gives them time to do what they want to.If we spent less time worrying about "racism" and all the other junk they tell us to watch out for we would see what is really going on in this world, which they don't want.Plus it has to do with the way the "minorities" have been treated in the past. This is a new day and age people and about time we started putting all the junk behind us and start reallizing all we are doing is destroying ourselves. All we do is spend "money" and argue about nonsense.Personally, i don't care what "color"anyone is.There are good and bad in all cultures. It's when we stop falling for all the junk and start listening to our innerselves of what's right that we will see what is what.

first of all before there was BET, or black channels there was Caucasian channels with no Black people, as time progressed and Black people started to get money they wanted something where they would be acknowledged. Do your research all those channels have been bought out by Caucasians so the names could have been changed easy but there is a market for the channels. It would not make since to have a white channel , when y'all all already on everything. yes, you are being a racist you were just bold enough to say it on the net and not in a black person's face.

This is something thats actually makes me mad. It seems its ok for a black person to make white jokes on tv or cinema everyone laughs its treated like a comedy moment. But its the opposite effect whenn its the other way around, its treated as racist.

My best friend is black and I can talk to him about anything, he even states this is stupid and wrong.

We are multicultural so there should be none of this black or white only.

I have very good friends from pretty much every culture so what do i care for black only or asian only?

I think all it does in reality is it sets barriers between us.

I agree with you and have always wondered about it, I am Black but I do not see the need for BET to be called that, It could have been called ET( entertainment television ), When ppl go to the net worth they would soon see that Black people are there, same for Miss Black America.

That is a good question. I have often wondered that myself. I think that it is unfair to say that a white person is racist when they comment on being proud of their race and heritage. No one says a black person is racist for doing the same...double standard? I think that the slavery thing is still haunting african americans. They ask us to live in harmony with them, but what about them forgiving the past and living in harmony with us? We have no control over what happend years ago and that should not be held against us today. If they could get over it....there would be no racism issues in my opinion.

You know I have thought about the same thing before. I don't consider myself racist at all but I don't understand that. I heard one of my friends say that a college was a 'black only' school and I asked why is that allowed, but white people would be called racists if there was a 'white only' school. He then explained to me that the school is called that because the majority of people were black, but then we started discussing BET. I don't understand it. I think it is important that African American's get recognized for their work, just like Caucasians do, but I don't think they should have their own channel, because if white people did that....it would be a huge issue.

Because every other channel is "White Entertainment Television," that's why. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, our society is pervasively eurocentric and that definitely includes Hollywood and television. While I myself am white and consequently a "beneficiary" of this fact, I at least try to be aware and acknowledge its existence. It is easy and convenient to be ignorant when you are not the one being implicitly excluded, but I'd highly recommend trying to be a more critical consumer of American media - I'm confident you'll be able to answer this question yourself after just a few hours of primetime TV.
