My breasts did not start actually "leaking" until a day or two after i got out of the hospital with my daugther (about three-four days after giving birth). And I remember it quite fondly, because family was over to visit, and all of a sudden my T-shirt was wet! lol, anyway, I had to go into the bathroom and stuff some tissue in my bra because no one told me I would need breast pads since I come from a family of formula-feeders (since I am more educated now, I WILL be breastfeeding my next child). But I remember taking baths during the last 2 weeks that I was pregnant and leaking a little. It was not milk, but I guess what they call "colostrum". I never leaked outside of the tub or shower though so luckily I didn't have to worry about spotted t-shirts! Hope this helped, I know every woman is different. But usually your milk does not come in until a day or two or three after delivery. Before then it is just colostrum.

I am currently nursing my 20 month old and i NEVER leaked when i was pregnant. i couldn't even squeeze out a drop of colostrum! My milk took 5 days to come in, but he's never had a drop of artificial milk!

Sounds like you might need more info on breastfeeding.

Your brests probably hurt because they are gearing up and filling out in new ways. The skin is being stretched and it itches because of the growing.

Some women dont leak milk from their breasts at all, some not until after the baby is born. It does not mean you don't have any, just that it's not ready yet. The first few days after the baby is born, the milk is called colostrum...which is the milk that is high in antibotics for the baby. Good luck.

I leaked milk 3days after my daugther was born, yes they hurt an felt hot to the touch, couldn't stand it. You will have milk comming as soon as your baby is put to your breast after the birth, to start the milk glands going. The itch could be from the skin being dry. Use baby oil to keep the soft.

What I learned is that nothing is "normal" or else everything is "normal". Ask your doctor about why they hurt and itch. I bet s/he'll say it's "normal."

Don't worry too much. Your body is so smart it'll do everything just right.
