It depends on what kind of reporter you want to be...tv, print etc
Start by working for the school paper. Write some freelance stuff and see if the local papers in your area will look at it.
Many reporters now have a BA in the field they want to report in; eg criminology or psychology etc. That is always good to have as a Plan B incase things dont work out.
Check out local colleges/universities. I like colleges because they often have a co-op placement that helps get your contacts in the world. Many are hard to get into, so look around. Many also have portfolios to work on, so you can practice that too.
Start reading a LOT of papers and newswebsites. The more current event savvy you are, the better.

Learn how to write properly. Get a book on the AP style guide and check it out.
Volunteer to write at your school's newspaper.
After HS pick a college with Journalism as a major- become familiar with requirements.
Call local papers or PR companies and see if they offer internships or "ride along" programs.
Excel in your English classes!

Look into getting a degree in AB Mass Communication then major in Journalism or maybe in reporting.
My friend took up Mass Communication and then majored in Journalism, now she is working in a magazine firm as one of their reporters.

I have a friend who became a sports writer for a major news paper. The main thing is that he wrote for the school newspaper in College and he loved sports. You have to really love the thing you are writing about and know all the latest news.
