Hi,
you can try the following method, provided you have administrator rights to your pc.
Go to Start -> Run and type "gpedit.msc" (without the quotes) and press enter.
A group policy page will open up.
From the left hand side of the screen, go to User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Desktop.
On the right hand side, you will see "Remove Recycle Bin icon from desktop".
Double-click on it.
Its properties screen will open up.
Just select "Enabled" and click OK to close the screen.
Close Group policy page.
Restart your system.
Your Recycle Bin icon should be removed.
To get back your Recycle Bin icon, just follow above steps and choose "Not Configured" or Disabled".

i believe if you right click on the desktop, click on properties, then the desktop tab. then click the customize desktop button. then run the "unused desktop icons" wizard. that should get rid of the icon, but only by 'hiding' it.

I dont think you can, it is one of the basic icons that appear when you start up your computer. It would be illogical, puting your recycle bin into your recycle bin to delete it...
