You have to use a spray that is used to kill ants or bugs.

It depends on the type of ant you have. There are little brown ants (called pharoah ants), that will bud new colonies if you spray them. The traps that you put inside your cupboards work pretty well. There are small versions you can put inside your outlets (you take off the outlet cover and put the trap in there, then put the cover back on). We had an exterminator do this and it worked very well, for both carpentar ants and pharoah ants. I've also heard that if you buy diatomatious earth and sprinkle it around the perimeter of the house it will keep the ants out.

Lots of good answers already listed let me add please be careful. Do you have or are there in the area children or pets? That should weigh in your decision. Borax mixed w/sugar most always works for ants or roaches however it is deadly to pets and children.
So, let me add one that might help you vinegar. It really does work and it is safe. I have tried spraying it and didn't like the results but I have poured it out and works great. These have always been outside ants and you don't say about yours but I pour around the door and the ant mounds. I don't know if it kills but it kept them away from my place. But really whether you use sprays, traps, etc., please be careful and follow directions.

Generally ants are either "sugar" eaters or "meat" eaters. Mixing sugar and Borax or boric acid (Roach Pruf) and putting where only the ants can get it...think jar with holes in lid for ants only usually works for the sugar eaters.

The meat eaters (those that bite!) try peanutbutter and borax or boric acid.

Hey, mix the two, not well, swirl together jelly and peanutbutter with the poison, but in a safe bait box or jar!

Actually when dealing with the aggressive biters, I go straight for the Amdro insecticide....I don't mess with the baits.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water. I found the information at http://www.pests.in useful.

Hello Yuki,

There are just too many to knock the ants off.Remember they are
around far longer than us. They know the meaning of survival.I had this experience few years ago on this issue. A whole colony of black ants was using my house from front door to the back. It is just too many to spray and kill them off. We belong to a unique religious association that does not believe in killing, that was created. So I spoke to them and told them to leave my house. After about 1/2 hour, nothing happened. I reflected. I must have been arrogrant in my attitude to the ants. Then I had an idea. I went down to their level, (floor) and spoke to them gently and told them this is my home. Please do not use my house as your highway. I also gave them another 1/2 hr. to complete their journey and to inform their group this instruction. True enough, after about this time, they left as suddenly as they came.So killing them does not provide a long term solution. My home was probally their previous home. Speak to then as if you are speaking to your seniors.Good luck.

your general insect spray will do the trick quite nicely. However, you should spray around window sills or gaps where they can get in with a surface spray. also, you can get ant sand and distribute it around your home for extra protection
