no, you have to convert the mp3 into wma and then once it is a wma file, you have to convert it to midi format. then you have to get a program or somthing that translates midi songs into music notes. even with doing all this, the notes won't come out exactly how the song sounds

for the last 20 years, converting an mp3 into a midi file was not possible. Fortunately for you, in the last year, there is a way to do so. No matter what program you use, as long as you get a MIDI file, you can read the "notes" from it. Below is what you need to do to convert Mp3 to MIDI. Once you have midi, any program, Garageband, Cakewalk, ect... can read the midi and show you sheet music. The software isnt perfect, but if your any good at music, you can polish it. In the future have your friend export his music as Midi, and you wont have to do all this again.

there are programs like Sibelius and Finale that let you use a microphone to enter notes into a score, but they can only figure out one note at a time, not the multiple notes coming at it all at once from all the instruments...
