How do you get soliciting phone calls to stop? Such as constant, daily, annoying sales for dish network, credit card eliminations, to mortgage reducing when I don't even own my home?????????????
Now it's even electorial phone calls to vote for so and so........ I get more of these annoying phone calls than I do personal calls on a daily basis. Does anyone know how to get them to stop calling? I've tried hanging up time after time, They just call back. They say push #2 to be removed from the list. I push it and it claims I have entered an invalid #. Very frustrated.

Oh, that's simple. Just go to The National Do Not Call Registry's website at https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx and add your phone number. By doing this your phone number will be on the registry for 5 years. It will take up to 31 days for the calls to stop completely, but once they do it is such a relief, trust me. The only callers that are exempt from the Do Not Call list are charities, bill collectors, and anyone else that you do business with like credit card companies and such. This is absolutely free to do. Just remember to sign up again in five years.

Here's what it says at the website:
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for 31 days. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!

The best reverse cell phone lookup service that I have tried is http://reversephone.toptips.org

From using a reverse cell phone lookup you will be able to get the callers name and address just
by typing the phone numbers they will tell you the details related to the number.
The reverse cell phone lookup service has your details available they will give you the cell phones location. For a full report including a name and address and other interesting informations you will have to pay.
Enter the number in the system and they will tell you a lot of informations about the phone number and the person who owns it.
If they have extra details you will have to pay for the report.
Free reverse phone lookup sites generally provide the most basic of information such as name and it works only for landlines. To get further information, money will have to be paid. The free searches do not provide much more than what can be found through the phone book.
This service is great, I used it a lot f time with great results: I always obtained what I was searching for.
I definitely reccomend this service.

I have caller ID and I don't answer 1 800 numbers or when Unknown Name or Unknown Number show on the display. On occasions when I have answered and the caller is doing market research or conducting a survey, I ask for payment. Be aware that many of those calls are coming from out-of-country calling centres and the numbers they are calling are randomly selected by an electronic devise, thus the period of silence you often hear when you pick up the phone.

While all of the answers here are very creative, you don't have to change your number or ignore your friends and family's calls. Simply register your phone number on the national do not call list. Once you do so, you let these callers know you have registered and keep a log of who is calling. Once they ignore that you are registered, you can file a complaint against them and in some cases, they have to pay a fine, to you.

Go to the link below to find out how to get on the national Do Not Call Registry. When I get that type of call, I just say "I'm on the Do Not Call Registry", and that pretty much stops them cold. Other times I say, "I'm not interested, thank you" and hang up. The good thing about handling them this way is that you're in control of the call, and you don't have to get irate and push your blood pressure through the roof.

The election is Nov. 7, so those calls will be over then. I'm one of the people calling for MoveOn.org to try and help win one or both of the Congressional houses for the Democrats so we can inject some control over those who are running amok in DC these days. Please look up www.moveon.com and see the information about the upcoming election--assuming you're registered to vote.

I have been successfully, by just telling the caller to hold on a few minutes. Then I just lay the phone down for 3-5 minutes. Sometimes I Go to the bathroom flush the toilet in their ear and some time pretend that I am throwing up. That person never calls back.

check with the company u get phone service through. with bellsouth there is a privacy directory that u can activate to stop the calls from coming through. I personally love answering them and hope it is a real human on the other end and not a recorded message. I love to play with them and ask them for donations to help restore my house of feed the kids and such...I also love blowing my air horn into their ears. And the mortgage people...ask them to first buy u a house so that they could help U in reducing the payments. Get creative....they are great releases for stress...don't have to worry about being reported for harassing calls or obscene calls as they were the ones that called U...say anything U like and have fun at it :-) also, giving out your number to companies and stores and such...gives them permission to call if u are on a do not call list. Treat it as an email...be wary who u give it to or it will have loads of spam. lol
