For fall foliage, plant mums. There are several varieties and colors. They will come up again next year for you. Just pinch the branches a little during the summer and let them go about the middle of August and you'll have lots of blooms every fall. Now is also the time to be planting bulbs for spring flowers. Crocus bloom first, Daffodils and tulips bloom second, followed by iris and then peonies. Lillies have different varieties and blooming times and can be planted interspersed. Stage your bulbs accordingly and you'll be sure to have a continually blooming flower bed with little effort. Be sure to mulch your flower beds to help eliminate the need to weed and water as much.

Pansies can take cool weather and come in lots of great colors. Flowering Kale is another colorful plant ( it's the plant, not flowers, that are colorful). Crysanthemums are another good fall plant.

Wish you guys would put in where you live or at least a zone.
Pansies, Flowering Kale....snapdragons and petunias in a frost free area. Ornamental grasses ....maybe. Though dormant they still have some form. Too much winter though they will break down in appearance.

Oh thats easy. Since we dont know what zone you are in, or where you are located, just go to your local nursery, or Lowes or Home Depot, etc... Whatever they have there that is flowering now, is what is going to work in your area. Sorry but this is the best we can do for now without knowing where you are at.

assuming you can plant in your zone......nasturiums are to die for and spread so quickly across the ground...such a choice to choose from.....some are dwarf ..they always grow best from seeds...take lots of cool weather...either Liberty or Sonnet snapdragons unless you are lucky enough to get real cool weather...then you can grow Rockets...buy at local nursery.....calendulas are colorful cool weather....on those nasturiums, plant one inch deep....and soak in warm water a day before you plant the seeds...don't forget about wonderful anemone tiny bulbs...good luck

I'm in N. Texas and just put in pansies, snapdragons, and dwarf hawthorn evergreen bushes. Also, I'm putting in some tulip bulbs for spring color.
