My mom was a grandma at 40, I had my first of 3 daughters when I was 20, 5 yrs ago. But she didn't like the idea of grandma, granny or any of those so we went with nanaw. It's not heard as often as mammaw or nana but a combination of the 2. She likes it, but no mater what your child calls her, he or she will be the pride and joy of her life, I promise!

I call my grandmother Nanny.

And I love it. It's so cute. Everyone goes 'aww' when I talk about her and call her that. I'm 18 so you know, I have no worries calling her nanny.

I don't like grammie or granny. It sounds like she's an oldie thet knits and gives the kid cookies.

By the way, I call my great grandmother Gigi! There's nothing 'lame' about that!

I used to work with a very gruff lady who's grandchildren (much to her chagrin) called he "Ga-ga". Of course, once word got around we all did too! I also have a friend who's kids call her mother-in-law Nana.

Nana?
Gran?

maybe baby will make up her own name to refer to your mom. When my cousin was little she couldn't pronounce my moms name and would call her "Aunty La La" (nothing like her real name! lol) but it was cute solely because it was her own idea!
