some could consider it to be related to a more spiritual sense, with it having to do with being connected with nature during youth. could also be curiosity. neither are solid, which to something who's always lived in a solid world can be pretty odd. water flows through your hands, and fire you can pass things through (and they come out changed on the other side). sand flows through your hands, but it's still solid, you know? we live and depend on the stability of solids. to a child, who is still relatively new to the world, the existance of other state than solid is interesting. air is often seen as empty space until we understand science, hence the possible lack of interest in air as a non-solid.
