In general, human life falls under two grand divisions-Yogams and Arishtams, or fortunes and misfortunes. Fortunes include success in every field. Arishtams or misfortunes include all sorts and sources of sorrows.
Misfortunes or miseries are more important than fortunes or sources of happiness. When bright fortunes rule a person, he / she will have no difficulty in adjusting his/her surroundings and enjoying their results. Similarly when misfortunes have an upper hand with a person, then the person will not only be unnerved but also will be at loss to know how to meet them.
Arishtam means Daridram (sufferings / poverty); in general, Daridrams are of eight types hence we often say Ashta Daridram (eight types of sufferings). The enjoyments are also of eight types, so we say Ashta Aishwariyam. Therefore, in order to get rid of Ashta Daridram and gain Ashta Aishwariyam, Sri Ashta Lakshmi Pooja is often recommended.
Goddesses always occupy superior position in India. We believe Sri Saraswathy for Vidhya, Sri Paarvathy or Sri Durga for protecting the innocent and punishing the wicked and Sri Mahalakshmi for all the Ashta Aishwariyam. Sri Maha Lakshmi is referred as Chandra Sahodari (sister of Moon) and worshipped for all the betterment in our life. It is believed that she has the absolute power and deep mercy to increase our Aishwariyam and lessen our sufferings.
The life on this earth could not be imagined without the Moon; likewise the life without the blessings of Sri Maha Lakshmi, sister of the Moon, cannot be very bright. In the Kanaka Dhaara Stotram, Sri Maha Lakshmi is referred as ‘Soma Amruta Sahodarayai” –means sister of Moon. Hence falling unto HER feet will yield definite results.
After the formal Ganpathy Pooja and Maha Sangalpam, the devotee has to perform fourteen types of Maha Abhisheka to Sri Maha Lakshmi Prathima made of either silver or gold. The Maha Abhisheka items are: - Til-oil, Turmeric, Sandalwood paste, Coconut water, Rose water, Curd, Milk, Sugarcane, Musambi, Dry fruits, Honey, Kadi shakkar. Panchamrutam and Fruits. Thereafter, the person doing the Pooja has to perform Sri Maha Lakshmi Praana Pratishta Pooja with due Vedic Maha Mantras.
Then, Sri Maha Lakshmi Prathima should be placed in the center of eight sets of beetle, nut and banana considering them to be Sri Ashta Maha Lakshmi namely Aadi Lakshmi, Dhaanya Lakshmi, Dhairya Lakshmi, Gaja Lakshmi, Sandana Lakshmi, Vijaya Lakshmi, Vidhaya Lakshmi and Dhana Lakshmi and do Ashta Maha Lakshmi Pooja.
After the completion of Sri Ashta Maha Lakshmi Pooja, Sri Maha Lakshmi Ashtotra Maha Archana is to be performed to the Silver or Gold Prathima of Sri Maha Lakshmi with fullest correct Swara, Shabda and Ucharana meaning with clear tone and clear pronunciations of each word.
Any person right from the category of VVIP to a category of an ordinary layman/woman can do this Pooja on any auspicious day either at his/her residence or at his/her business place. Sincere involvement and true dedication during the Pooja hours will definitely yields quick and good results!
The more effective way of getting the blessings of any God after performing any Pooja is to give Dhaanam-to donate. Likewise Dhaanam is the most important part of Sri Maha Lakshmi Visesha Pooja also. Sri Maha Lakshmi Visesha Pooja should be done after formal Ganapathy, Navgraha, Ashta Lakshmi Pooja, Maha Abhishekam and Praana Pratishta Pooja. After conducting Sri Maha Lakshmi Visesha Pooja the following must be given in Dhaanam to a married lady –irrespective of caste or color, in order to get full pledge blessings. The Dhaanam is called Sthree-Dhaanam.
Sthree-Dhaanam Items. Sari, blouse, shringar items, mehandi, solid haldi, haldi powder, kumkum, coconut oil, til oil, yellow-thread, mirror, comb, red ribbon, green and red bangle, hand-fan, umbrella, chappal, towel, shikha powder or soap, fruits, raw vegetables, raw rice, tuvar-dal, sugar, ghee, coconut water, coconut, honey, rose water, milk, kaju-kismiss, cardamom, clove, silver or steel plate, paan and flower.
