A down and dirty answer, the more it heats up, the more it will cost. Ovens, oven cleaning cycle, electric hot water, electric dryers, toasters all heat up thus use more watts. Go to your electric bill and find your cost per Kilowatt hour (1,000 watt). Start adding up the easy things like light bulbs. For example a 100 watt light bulb on for 10 hours during the billing cycle will be one kilowatt.

Now look around at all electric things in home. YIPES!!!

Opposite here as well, wife always leaves them on, I'm always turning them off. I'd go so far as to guess that's the more common situation given that I think men tend to be more on the cheap side. I've tried reminding, cajoling, getting irritated, haven't found anything that works. So I just go around turning them off as I see them on and not being used. It bothers me more when she leaves the house with a bunch of lights on. I think it's part of their upbringing, where they get in the habit of turning them off or not.

Probably your biggest effect will come from watching your AC and heat usage. Running it 24/7 will run the bill through the roof.

Look for the wattage rating on each. One of the highest is a coffee pot.
