I don't mean to offend, but I want to know what people think.
I am studying the civil rights movement, and I want to know why there are a number of young black people that intentionally set themselves apart from the mainstream by wearing "grillz", sagging their pants, etc. I understand that people come from different cultures, but to give one's self an obvious disadvantage BY CHOICE seems to be disrespectful of the people that fought and died during the civil rights movement. These people faced unimaginable hardship, injury, loss of life, etc, all in the name of equality. Why do people set themselves up for failure, and then get angry and call others racist, when they are so obviously trying to be so different?

When I say disadvantage by choice, I don't mean that simply being black is a disadvantage.

Your question seems a little vague. I think people set themselves up for "failure" in the face of the very people that stuck their necks out for them for a variety of reasons. From our founding fathers of our country rolling over in their graves at how the people they suffered and fought for to be independent from government rule are now living on the edge of a police state, how the spirit of the suffragettes dream was twisted by Gloria Steinem's generation who now is plagued by the newest generation of predatory feminists who degrade equal rights with petty lawsuits for their own gain. Rosa Parks was Brave and courageous, Martin Luther King was an opportunistic grandstander who took advantage of Ms. Parks circumstance. Yes, it resulted in a huge positive turm for equal rights, Malcom X was very effective at that time, and unfortunately for future generations, the parasitic ethnic preacher/racial leaders were born, constantly driving a wedge between all Americans by screaming about inequality and pitting one race against another.
People choose to ignore ethics, morality and common sense and empathy for others because their leaders make money by manipulation the division of race, religion Gender and politics to the general public.
United we stand, divided we fall, and ever since the civil war, we have been dividing at an increasingly faster rate. Study your History from older, unabridged books, talk to your grandparents, Go to an old folkes home and ask the people who were there what it was really like.
It is good to be different, America was founded on it. However, with everything that was originally set up and intended by the constitution, One thing that has fallen by the wayside is self respect and responsibility to yourself and others.
People don't set themselves up for failure, They lack a sense of respect and responsibility that is supported by the government who wants their votes.
Want a little extra money? Dress sexy and sue the company you work for because some guy who was raised with manners compliments the way you look. Don't worry about him, his wife, or three children who will suffer because he has no job or career anymore, you will be on easy street.
Go to the front of the line to be a policeman, Fireman, civil service worker? Not to worry, your race and/ or gender can get you an easier test than those silly people who busted there *** to study for the exam. And if there are too many qualified people? Hey, thats where you can actually replace someone who actually earned and qualified for the position. Lucky you!
Can't speak english? NO PROBLEM! Can't read? You will be provided a translator. Until you are actually working, then, who cares? You got the job somebody who was born here in the land of equality would have had if you your parents didn't jump the border illegally with you in their arms.
People act with disrespect to their foregoers because they have no consequences for taking the easy way out.

Young people dress that way to be different, they are not disrespectful, they are ignorant that by setting themselves apart from the main stream-- are actually the same among themselves. They are disadvantaged because instead of reading a book to develop knowledge, they spent their time pulling their pants up. They spend to much time watching television and observe sports figures dressing sloppy. They don't see these figures when they are out of the eye of cameras-dressed in expensive mainstream clothing, driving expensive vehicles.
They don't set themselves up for failure. The American educational professionals have given up on them. It's easier for teachers to overlook failure than fight off knives or being shot.
Remember our cultures are the same as Americans. There exist a small band of those from the"hood"--thinking wrongfully--they are "cool".
Give me five--up high,
On the side--where I hide
Down low--so I stay slow.
Remember the drug money over shadows the Gross National Product, and the second currency in America called "Food Stamps" circulates beyond the amount of dollars printed by the US Department of Engraving.

The Civil Rights Movement was a drop in the bucket compared to the movement of illegals in this country, which will hit us while we are being politically correct.
