John may have tried to deal with this before he died...but that may be pro-John rubbish. Anyway, it was too late.
Lennon admitted his failures, occasionally, and Lennon knew he screwed up with Julian.
At some point, most of us learn from our failures and weaknesses, usually too late to repair the damage we did, but enough to fight against repeating the mistakes and trying somehow to make amends.
It doesn't make Lennon a hypocrite; it makes him human.
But the St. John stuff stinks.
Lennon himself had parents who didn't care all that much about him--how young was he when his father and mother confronted each other and him in a hotel room and said he had to pick? 5? 6? He picked Dad and left with him--then ran back to his mother to stay with her--and then she turned him over to her sister (the wonderful Aunt Mimi) to raise him. Imagine a young child going through that hell, picking his mother, and his mother doesn't even stay with him.
So he passed the crap down--which pretty much summarizes every great human play or novel or whatever work of art; people pass crap down, be it love, guilt, confusion--he passed the crap down to Cynthia and Julian.
And he wanted everybody to love him and he rejected almost everybody who did.
Then he tried to say, in Americanese, the buck stops here. It was too late.
But as we get older we all see:
WE HAVE SO MANY CHANCES TO SCREW THINGS UP AND A CHANCE TO MAKE IT RIGHT IS RARE.
There's no evidence that John Lennon ever liked being John Lennon.

John's peace and love came after the beatles. It can also probably be attributed to his hippiness and drug taking. But we know he was arrogant both with the beatles and after, and arrogance mad him think he was being a saviour of the world. But he didn't put his peace and love into action, which is why we now call bob geldof sir. No, John Lennon's peace and love was a figment of his imagination. Also, the reason he neglected Julian was because he was not ready for fatherhood, nor was he mature enough. Shame on him for not being a bigger man and dealing with this instead of hitting the drugs. And this is a man idolised by many? Please.

He was a different person in the early 60s than in the 1970s. He wasn't a good father to Julian but tried to make it up with Sean.

It's easy to say one thing that you believe, and actually be able to practice it. I'm not trying to take away anything from him, he's amazing, but it's easy to practice peace when you're doing a lot of drugs and married to a crazy woman, but it's harder to own up to your own past mistakes. I don't think he was a strong enough man to do that. Does anybody really know though?

Because his "peace and love" was based on a plant; REAL peace and love is based on faith and virtue.
