use ice but dont do w-d 40 that will really make a mess! Petrol is actual a very good cleaning agent with strong stains but I would not advise using it in carpet because it could start a fire. It is best to use petrol for strong stains in white or very light fabrics. And if you do you must hand wash it rather than a machine as it is a fire hazard. Try using ice if this doesn't help then use goo gone. But if I were you I would avoid using harsh cleaning agents if possible. Good luck.

Get an aircan (and ONLY an aircan) the kind they sell in stores to clean computers (Radio-Shack or similar stores carry them).

Put the little straw thingie on the can spout and spray the gum with the can UPSIDE DOWN.

The liquid air escaping, will instantly freeze you gum. Which will be hard dry and brittle for a while.

Repeat if necessary. This technique will not damage any fabrics, hair or even paper.

Caution: you can cause serious harm to yourself if you spay on yourself or on fingers. Please be careful and dont spray for bouts of more 4 or 5 seconds at a time.

Put an ice cube on the gum and hold it till the gum freezes then you should be able to chip it off with a kitchen knife or something.

For the carpet
use scissors to cut the gum up from the carpet

For clothing

just pull it off of clothing and throw it in the washer and wash with bleach

Warm it up with a hair drier and then use a fine comb to pull it out of the fibres.
