My son has a terrible teacher this year. I have an appointment with his principal tomorrow to request that he be moved to a different room. News about our issues with this teacher has spread. I recvd. phone calls this evening regarding this teachers past behavior. I am now aware that I will be the third parent this year to request that my child be moved and worse yet this has gone on for years. I will no longer be satisfied if just my child is moved- I want the teacher removed. How can I document her incompetence and make it public knowledge? I am thinking of a format like "www.moviemom.com". What are the issues regarding defamation of character I should be thinking about?

The best teachers in the world are priceless - the worst teachers in the world are also priceless because no amount of money can fix the emotional damage they inflict!

Ms. Dosen- Maria- Geometry- thank you

My suggestion would to take it past the principal to the board of education. Make sure you approach them with the most ammunition that you can. Who, what where and when. The board of ed also had a tendency to listen a little bit harder to someone who brings their lawyer with them vs. someone who just walks in and starts complaining. A parent is very passionate about there child's education(as they should be) and an attorney is a tad bit more objective and can present the facts without the drama that sometimes comes out when you get upset. Plus the mere presence of a lawyer usually goad the board into taking action vs. just apeasing you so taht you go away. I would be extremely careful about anything that might be considered defamation or slander. it might put you in civil court and you would end up paying the price instead of this teacher. Good luck

let's see~ document on paper the incident that occurred. Then get the other parents that had their children removed to document their incident and sign it. We live in a small town and if u do u can run an ad to c if anyone else has had problems with this teacher. When they contact u document that as well. Then get all ur documentation together and take it to the Boe(Board of Education). If u speak with the person in charge there let him or her know that ur next step will be to call the state person over the BOE. If that person doesn't tell u what u want to hear then take it to the papers.Good Luck :)

If you're that passionate about this, there are more effective ways to go about this. While it may be satisfying to find ways to publicly besmirch this person, in the end it will only cost you what you are really seeking; to have this person removed.

Money talks; keep moving up the chain until you find someone that controls the purse strings for the school, or better yet, the district. Find someone on the local school board who is needing the votes in the next election. Tell them you'll sick "no child left behind on them". Tell them you'll go to the local newspaper or tv station (nothing sells news like a good scandal, and they can dig and get the records you can't, probably).

If this person is as bad as you say, then the truth will come out if you shed enough lights on it.

I am so totally feeling you in this situation. My son whom at the time had long hair, might I add the only kid at school that had long hair at that time was picked on by a teacher. She should have retired long ago and did not. She told the class "since such in such doesn't want to listen lets call him another name which was very similar to his own nobody play with him and if you do then you will get into trouble to. I had no choice but to go to the supertendent of the school system and complain and I inturn sent a tape recorder to school with him and told him to keep it in his bookbag so that he would have documented proof of the discrimination against him. It did proof that he was unfairly targeted because he looked different. Now although I felt as though something would have come out of this it did not. He was made a poster child for bad behavier for other teachers because it was noted in his file that he was a disipline problem and could not be controled. I had to volunteer in his class often to see for myself and that made the biggest difference on his file. No longer could they make him an example because how could they make something up if I were there to moniter what was going on. You should definatly volunteer to go as often as you can and see for yourself what is going on and things will change. Not only will the teacher change their views, but will not make up lies when you are present for fear of coming out of character.

you see pricipal and voice your concern---politely.

you don't want a slander or libel suit against you.

people say many things and often not the truth.
be concerned with getting the facts.

when a parent start "wanting a teacher removed" barriers pop up.
you become the bad apple...

your child go into another class and now they have problems there.
you move again???
or change schools?

take your time and make sure the principal get you complaint in writing and ask for a copy.

school boards need that kind of info..

put the principal under pressure...

I do understand you plight and I wish I knew what to say to you. Unfortunately you are in an uphill drag with no prospect of getting over the top. Once a teacher has tenure it is almost impossible to remove anyone. That is one of the major impediments to Education today.

My wife has taught school for 30 years so I asked her to look at your memo. She said that in most school districts the Adminstration itself will have to set a trap for this teacher and spring it. Someone is going to have to monitor her and that someone needs to be a school offical

Chain of command, principal, superintendant, school board are the best ways to start. If you don't get help at any of those stops tell the school board you are hiring an atty. and have witnesses to past problems. They may listen if $ is at stake.

I had a bad teacher once...well more then once...

I would sit in the class first to see how really bad the teacher is, That's what my parents did in first grade.

If talking to the Principal doesn't work you can always put him in another school...

Good luck...

if the bad news has spread, then all you have to do is make a meeting of sorts to advocate for you as a group to fire this teacher.

power in numbers.

two parents won't make a difference. twenty, on the other hand, makes a lot more.
