Topfreedom is a social movement which seeks to accord women the right to go topless in public should they so choose, where men have the equivalent right. Examples of public spaces which might be covered include beaches, swimming pools and parks. The reasons cited include keeping nursing mothers from having to find a hidden place for breastfeeding, allowing women to sun tan, comfort in places such as pools and beaches, and sex equality issues.

In North America, where resistance to topless nudity of women is greater than in mainland Europe or Australia, a small topfree equality movement has grown up. In February 2005 in California, attorney Liana Johnsson contended that under Megan's Law, women convicted of indecent exposure (for breastfeeding or sunbathing) could find themselves listed as sex offenders alongside rapists and child molesters. The term "topfree" is used as an alternative to "topless", which may carry negative connotations. Some women prefer the term "shirtfree rights".{

Tell me this. Do you really want to see some nasty flap jacks flapping around. I think its already gross seeing topless men walking around with a belly that hangs over their pants.

As the old saying goes: "What's good for the goose is good for the gander." What I mean by this is if it's legal for men to go "topfree", then it should be legal for women to be "topfree" as well. I think by repressing the human body the way it is done here in the United States of America, is only causing problems. I truly feel that God made man and woman in His own likeness. Since all things from God are beautiful then the human body, be it male or female, is also beautiful. By repressing it, I truly feel, is a primary reason for all the sexual crimes and problems that happen in the United States of America. The first time I was at a nude beach I really thought I would have to run to the ocean every ten minutes or so to calm myself down because of all the nude female bodies I saw. I felt more comfortable at the nude beach than I did at the non-nude beach where the girls left just enough to the imagination. By doing this, my brain didn't want to imagine what was being covered ever so carefully by the swimsuits these girls wore, it wanted to know. Imagining caused frustration. Knowing caused relief. Besides, it is an extremely hypocritical and sexist statement in that men can show their breasts in public places and let people see them and women, just because theirs are generally bigger than a man's are and just because they serve a particular function, cannot? Whatever happened to equal rights?

In Canada last summer there were MANY issues regarding this very subject. Grannies AND teenagers were getting in trouble with the Law.

Who knows, maybe it is time to make change.

first women can breastfeed in public and second they only are sex offenders if they've been convicted of a sex crime against a minor.
Megan's law has nothing to do with breastfeeding in public.

Thats absurd. Keep your cloths on for gods sake.. You really think people need to see some friggin gross as* person nakid in front of them or their kids? Whoever is apart of this movement is a moron and shouldnt be a part of society if they only care about themselves...which is the case if you HAVE to be out in your local ice cream parlor with your flabby T*Ts flailing about.
