Cut down on their dairy intake until the congestion has cleared. Too much dairy produces phlegm.

Both nasal and chest congestion respond well to steam, a hot shower or bath, or a vaporizer. The goal is to loosen the mucus, not suppress it. If you hear any wheezing or whistling in the chest, get that child to a doc, it may be bronchitis that can quickly turn to pneumonia. Under those circumstances, a fever is not good either, probably the same thing. If you are looking to medicate, a cough syrup that says "loosens mucus" is what you want, not a suppressant. Unless, it's at night, and the child needs to sleep. Just make sure you use the other during waking hours. But run the vaporizer all the time. They are safe in a child's room. Hope this helps.

For both chest and nasal congestion, I would suggest regular Childrens Tylenol Cold & Allergy. Stay clear from the Ibuprofen meds, they contail things that may actually hurt them rather than help. If it continues or persists, I would recommend taking him to the Doctor. They will probably need to prescribe an antibiotic such as azythromycin and a cough medicine in combination.

as much water and fluids as he or she will drink. this will thin the mucous and make it easier to cough up or to blow the nose.
as far as meds go, stay away from antihistamines unless you know that an allergy is causing the problem or making it worse. antihistamines will dry the nasal passages and make the mucous thicker.
children's sudafed is pretty good. this will shrink the nasal passages making it easier to breathe.
if there is a lot of chest congestion, robitussin (guafenisen) is an expectorant. this will make it easier to cough up any mucous in the chest.
if you are worried, see the pediatrician. but don't give antibiotics for a cold. they will not work on a virus.
i hope your child feels better!

Fibre rich food if your question meant constipation.

I always use Childrens Motrin, it seems to help my daughter feel better. Tylenol makes her restless.
