Everyone is right it was the English comedian, Peter Sellers in the 1979 film "Being There", a great concept for a movie.
Considered one the the great sleepers of all time.

I'm not real sure so I'd check it out if I were you but I think it's called "Being There" with Peter Sellars playing the gardener.
