I'll try to keep this short.
I am 21 years of age, and for the past five years, I used to get chronic strep throat, and then they put me on allergy medication. However, I still get a sinus infection at least once, if not twice, a month. I am on allergy medication and a prescription strength version of Mucinex to combat the sinus infections, not to mention a regular mutli-vitamin, vitamin C (etc) and constant fluid intake.
I feel as though I have done everything I can do to prevent these chronic sinus infections, but to no avail.
Is there a doctor who is in a specific field of medicine that you could recommend I look into? Thus far I have seen an allergist, ears nose and throat, and an internal medicine physician. Or perhaps should I revisit them?
I am really at my whit’s end. My parents are exacerbated by it as much as I am.
Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Find an ENT-Plastic Surgeon (ears, nose, throat) I suffered for years & finally found the perfect Dr in AZ. He fixed the deviated septum and cut out part of my sinuses. I don't know exactly what he did since it's been a few years. But I no longer take any sinus meds.

To have sinus infection and having been treated for it, suggests there must be another problem if this recurs as frequently as you state it does.

There is another condition which causes discomfort in the general area of the sinuses of the skull... Should you take the time to press a notch in the eyebrow (toward the nose) and find that tender to sore, it would suggest an entirely different problem.. There is another hole in the bone on the inside of the prominence of the cheek bone.. usually soreness will appear in both places of the same side.

Should this be present in your case, the treatment of a sinus problem will have no effect. It is not a sinus problem. It is a neurological one. You will also find tenderness to soreness at the base of the skull, when pressing there, on the same side.

Should all these be present, you should see a Doctor of Chiropractic. This falls within their specialty. Particularly since you have seen just about everyone else that can relate to a skull problem.

You can see a infectious disease doctor, or and ENT. Some times when we get treated with antibiotics in a chronic situation we create another problem. There is the possibility that the antibiotics killed off all the friendly bacteria and set you up for a fungal infection. You might consider having your doctor check you for a fungal infection.

you say you are seeing an allergist and are on allergy medication. have you eliminated a food allergy as the cause? this sounds like classic dairy or wheat sensitivity to me.

try a gluten-free, casein-free (the main allergen in cow's milk) diet for a month and see how you feel. it is difficult since wheat and milk are in pretty much all processed foods, but it will be worth the trouble if you find out the cause of your problems!

good luck. i hope you get a handle on this; i know the misery of chronic sinusitis.

Go to an Ear, Nose and Throat doc.
The fancy term for such a specialist:
otorhinolaryngologist
