My roommate is trying to move out with 5 months left on the lease and me and my other three roommates don't want to live with a stranger. I know my landlord has to accept subleasing applications if they pass the requirements. What can I do to block anyone from moving in. P.S. my roommate is very stubborn and will not reason with us.

The simple solution to your problem is to fight fire with fire. Sublease your shares and move out. That will leave your bad roomate with egg on his face or her face.

You would have to look into the specifics of your lease-agreement with the landlord. A landlord cannot simply force you to take in another unwanted room-mate. In my personal opinion, the room-mate that is wanting to leave did make a contract with you and your other room-mates to live there the duration of the lease. I am not sure if one room-mate can arbitrarily sublease their share of a multiparty lease without the consent of the other parties. I maybe would consult either your landlord, or an attourney to see how lease-agreement laws would apply here.

You need to reason with her. If you take her to court, you will lose. You & your roommates will have to split the difference because she tried and succeeded in finding someone to take over her lease. If you don't want a stranger, then find someone. If not you will have to pay up.

This is a legal matter. I think you have the right to approve of anyone who takes her place or you can just agree to let her out of the lease and make her part of the payments yourselves. Talk to the landlord about it.

you can shoot em. otherwise, the best thing to do is suck it up and split it between other roomates or find somebody thats not so strange or a hot chick.

DIVIDE THAT PORTION OF RENT BWT THE 4 OF YOU.
AND KEEP THE EXTRA SPACE.
