There are countless children in our school systems whether it be in New York State or California or any state between that need to be educated. I say this because 17% of those that obtained a diploma nationwide had a 6th grade equivalent in 2005 yet graduated! Why is it that our schools "give" grades away to these people? If they have challenges, they shouldn't get diplomas! Give them a Mickey Mouse tatoo (stick-on) or something! My question is, why do I have this attitude? Have I been in the service too long

"The Depatment of education in New York State couldn't challeng me, can you?"

The Department of Education couldn't challenge you but it looks like your keyboard can.

I completely understand where you are coming from though. I'm sickened at the educational apptitudes of applicants that come through my company. I can not believe some of the people that made it through high school and even into college. I think the biggest reason these people are being pushed through is because teachers don't make enough money to put up with the crap these idiot kids nowadays are giving them.

Plus schools don't have the funds to continually serve these same kids year after year...they've got to roll them out to roll new ones in...hopefully a few along the way have a supportive home life and come to school and get their education and go on to be productive members or society.

I live in Texas. Both my sons have learning disabilities. the 14 yr old is Dyslexic and the 16 yr old has trouble with reading comprehension. In Texas there is a test called TAKKS.All children have to pass TAKKS to move to the next grade. The loop hole is that if you have a disability you don't have to take TAKKS.There is a special test for those just under the passing TAKKS level its something like SKLS test. The rest are exempt. My boys were exempted on Reading, writing=spelling altogether but had to take the alternate test for the other subjects. So what my kids learned in school was only geared for test passing. My son (14)spelling at a 1st grade level pisses me off considering he could spell better than that when he was younger.I hate our school system in Texas. They are letting kids down every day and they (teachers) don't have a choice given the fact that if their kids don't pass TAKKS the are given a bad grade themselves.
